This figure would have been higher if it had not been for the SNP Scottish Government providing 60% of the cost.

Due to decisions made by the Labour Party in Westminster, East Renfrewshire Council will have to pay an extra £1.4m in Employer’s National Insurance. This is the equivalent of a 2% Council Tax rise.

A few months ago, I pleaded with our local Labour MP on the National Insurance hikes and asked him to put pressure on the chancellor to help the local council and third sector organisations operating in East Renfrewshire. I have not received a response.

We have ‘called in’ the decision to introduce social care charges in East Renfrewshire. The Labour administration made this decision with only four councillors present. We believe that the consultation process was poor and that the full impact on families has not been considered.

Labour’s NI hike will cost East Renfrewshire Council £4.18m. What is our Labour MP going to do about this?

As we approach polling day, important reminder that Labour are in coalitions with the Tories across the country in local authorities including East Renfrewshire. Nationally, Labour are offering no change to cruel Tory policies. Locally, they’re in partnerships in many councils.
