@BarronMedia@greatnorthrun_ Peter: that's my wife with the umbrella and me in the Man City top- you graciously invited us to step into the torrent ahead of you!
Going home from the @greatnorthrun_ in a storm. That's me in the red hat wading through a flood in my new suede shoes. And, no, I didn't take a coat or an umbrella. #greatnorthstorm
@terrychristian Cracking Tony Wilson profile. Yes 1950 the best year to be born. 3yrs younger but remember him and his posh voice well at DLS. Fiercely academic and sporting sch but imbued us with that M/C confidence
@SharonHodgsonMP Are you aware that the Post Office has not been delivering mail throughout Washington since last Wednesday- a problem acknowledged by their customer services?
@afuahirsch I am talking about the empire through an excellent Futurelearn course from Exeter University futurelearn.com/courses/empire
It offers links to a huge volume of material
@lissapoirot re European maps. The first MacDonalds in Britain was in London in November 1974- might be the first in Europe, not in Ireland. Great set of maps
@BBCWomansHour re. Equal pay- I was shocked to hear a few years ago, probably on Womens Hour, that both mothers and fathers give less pocket money to their daughters than to their sons! The issue is not just employers behaviour
@alexhern I hope a tribute page is opened on the main site. Jack was a must read columnist, even if I had little interest in the item under discussion, simply because of his courteous style
@MishaGlenny Little Irish history even though I went through the Catholic school system. Had better telly and footy than my Irish cousins. 3 uncles in the British army in WW2, dad and others came over for war work. Never returned and no chat about Irish history they had learnt
@BorderIrish Thank you for enriching my family history. Both were born before partition; dad's family found themselves just north, and mum's just south. So we grew up with lots of smuggling stories especially from WW2. I love your white yellow white yellow lines on your roads
@devonzuegel The Queen. Known just about every world leader and thousands of commercial and social celebs since WW2, visited most countries and been privy to sensitive intelligence, and lived 92 of the 100 years. Of course she doesn't share her thoughts or assessments with the rest of us!
@annemcelvoy Hi- thanks for yesterday debate at the Sage. You mentioned the overbearing references to Churchill. An interesting exercise might be a reference count of Churchill or Churchillian from, say, 1964 to date- maybe for the language column at the back of the Economist
@BBCRadio4#bbcsaturdaylive When I asked my mum what time I was born she said midnight. Was that Friday into Saturday, or Saturday into Sunday? She couldn't remember, so I don't know exactly how old I am.
