I have decided to "un-cloud-ify" my home, getting rid of all wifi/cloud outlets/switches, and removing Ring and Arlo (combined $440 a year) - so it's time for a 10" rack and a bunch of Pis and stuff - @MandicReally and @geerlingguy this is all your fault!!!

@Sunny_Rai007 Same. I'm just lamenting the fact that modern titles have no focus on performance and rely on tech to try to make them look good or blend frames to compensate for bad performance.
Doom and Wolfenstein (et all) were marvels of the DOS age

@geerlingguy Not sure how old you are...but I grew up in an era where gaming at 15- 30 fps was standard practice. So it could be worse bud. I'm 41 years old if that helps you get it. I'm talking ms dos gaming man.

@wltechblog @Geeked_AF_ @GamersNexus Haha many of us do. Finally getting in some recapping jobs and spending some time shoring up my "retro network"—hopefully setting up an internal dial up ISP soon :)
English

@Geeked_AF_ @geerlingguy @GamersNexus And just like that, we're all doing retro videos! Fortunately I have quite a backlog of devices waiting their turn on the bench!

@geerlingguy Pismo one of my favorite laptop of all time in terms of shell design! Being able to swap batteries live was hard rock!

@JohnForReason Story + creativity > massive worlds and realistic rendering

@geerlingguy The future of gaming is in small teams and solo devs who actually give a shit about the art of creating a fun experience.
AAA games overall are made for shareholders and see players as only an obstacle.
English

@GamersNexus I've been ruminating on the TrueNAS news, but I keep seeing Nvidia's shenanigans in the background...
It's gonna be a rough 2026 for hardware enthusiasts! But there is hope. Just... not much in the short term I think.
Right now focused on past hits with #MARCHintosh :)
English

@geerlingguy Genuinely so glad you posted about this. I like your videos and was curious what you thought, but wasn't sure if it'd hit the radar given all the TrueNAS goings-on!
English

@geerlingguy damn, should be a nice one!
does your mac use ati or nvidia card for tv-out? guessing the former
English

@geerlingguy you plugged that glorious Sony CRT into a feck'in Neo?!
English

@geerlingguy Whoa. You hooked it up to the mighty XServe?
English

@geerlingguy I have got 6 x RPi 4Bs in a rack mount with PoE thinking about a cluster, would you recommend docker swarm or kubernetes K3s vs K8s ?
English

@nyakojiru Yes, eventually planning on a Rubidium clock on one and OCXO on another
English

@geerlingguy llinuxptp (ptp4l) is great on CM4, but hardware timestamping is only half the battle. are you using a TCXO for better holdover when GPS lock drops?
English

PTP, NTP, Sync-E, GPS, PPS... the Switchberry does it all :)
A Raspberry Pi-powered managed Ethernet switch built specifically for timing applications. I used it to finally get all my clocks in sync, quick video with bonus Wireshark sniffing! youtube.com/watch?v=wxFHw5…

Apparently this month is the month I set up a PBX and some POTS infrastructure in the studio, for #MARCHintosh :)
I'm sure @crosstalksol would be proud!
English

@ntbrown01 Can choose either, the default I believe with this setup is 2-step (same as ptp4l). If you want to 'officially' get an answer (and maybe make it an easy config option), please post the q here: github.com/Time-Appliance…
