@LarryBig32707 @NewstalkFM The major increase is because more awareness, information and a change in the diagnostic criteria. It’s not rocket science; if you care to do some basic research.

@NewstalkFM Well, there is a major increase in all these spectrum disorders. Valid questions need to be asked. Is there something in our diet or water or environment causing this increase.we have all heard about drs taking kickbacks for a diagnosis to get extra benefits.

🗣️"It is estimated that 1-in-20 people in Ireland could be autistic. That's an awful lot of people in Kerry this morning who I'm sure will be deeply hurt" - Adam Harris, CEO of autism charity AsIAm, reacts to Danny Healy-Rae's suggestion that autism could be 'caused by a lack of vitamins'. 📰TDs have been writing to the Ceann Comhairle to ask Danny Healy-Rae to withdraw comments about autism being linked to vitamins. The Independent TD for Kerry made the remarks during a Dáil debate on special education places on Wednesday. 🗨️Speaking to @NTBreakfast this morning, AsIAm's Adam Harris said the comments were both 'deeply unhelpful and harmful', harking back to past implications that 'it's autistic people who are the problem'.

@Remy657754381 @iffabug @NewstalkFM How could something that impacts an individual because of genetics be a money making scam. A ludicrous thing to suggest. Maybe research a tiny bit.

@iffabug @NewstalkFM The level of ignorance on this thread is incredible. For those who have some experience and insight we are aware it’s a neuro developmental disorder. It’s not caused by lack of vitamins, vaccines or any other ridiculous outside influence.

@NewstalkFM It's a valid question to ask . The vitamin thing is obviously nonsense. When I was in school , there was no autism . Now every fifth child seems to have a diagnosis

@nikkimol @HelenORahilly I’m interested to know if you were intermittent fasting before starting Ozempic?

@HelenORahilly I'm on Ozempic too and found that doing intermittent fasting has helped me lose my 2 stone I've lost not the Ozempic. A lot of so called protein rich snacks are actually laced with sugars and not healthy at all.

@McBonneville78 @rtenews I know many politicians who have autism, dyslexia, dyspraxia, etc. Many of these people would love to speak about their diagnosis publicly, but they are fearful due to stigma.

@PoliticsWatch14 @CorrCormac @McBonneville78 @rtenews Why don’t you want Autistic people to represent you? What does that actually mean? 1 in 27 people are autistic so good chance you know many autistic people. Your comment regarding respite centre is incredibly ignorant.

@CorrCormac @McBonneville78 @rtenews I don't want autistic politicians representing me and making decisions that affect my life. The Dail is not a respite centre for people with special needs.

@BaldwinIV1916 @lukeming How do you decide what a functional adult is? Unless you live with or spend a lot of time with another adult, you don’t get to make that decision. You can’t see what goes on outside of the public persona. You certainly don’t get to decide on whether a diagnosis is appropriate.

I was diagnosed with Autism at the beginning of February. I always kinda knew. Now I actually do know. It really helps to know. #AutismAwarenessDay

@lukeming It's virtually meaningless as a diagnosis. All of us are. It can be "diagnosed" by something as simple as a choice to tell the truth where others will expediently lie. Compare it with what's diagnosed as severe autism. -There is nothing in common! You stick a label on honesty.
