Debate Erupts: EPRP Leader Confronts Prosperity Party Over War, Debt, and the Reality of “Medemer”
In a moment that cut through political rhetoric, Mistre Selassie Tamerat of the Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Party directly challenged the Prosperity Party and its leader, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, over the gap between promise and reality.
She questioned whether the philosophy of Medemer presented as unity and synergy has translated into peace and shared prosperity or into polarization, war, and economic strain.
She asked:
Is Ethiopia’s youth empowered with opportunity or mobilized for conflict?
Why are billions allocated to war while citizens struggle with soaring living costs?
How does the promise of self-reliance align with rising external debt and dependence on global financial institutions?
Her message was clear: Ethiopians are not laboratory subjects for political experimentation. They demand accountability, economic stability, and leadership that aligns words with action.
This was not just a debate moment it was a call for answers.

@433 @ishowspeedsui Mad news 😂😂 history shows they're still using 2G network

In Ethiopia, Cristiano Ronaldo is still playing for Real Madrid, @ishowspeedsui found out 😂🇪🇹
Ethiopia uses a different calendar than most of the world. It has 13 months in a year and is about eight years behind the Gregorian calendar, which is used by almost all other countries 🗓️
That’s why it’s currently 2018 in Ethiopia 😲
Speed was in shock and came to the conclusion that in Ethiopia Cristiano is still playing for Real Madrid 🤯🤣

Egypt has several options in the Nile water dispute with Ethiopia over the GERD. Diplomatically, it's pursuing US mediation, as offered by President Trump in January 2026, and has proposed international arbitration. Legally, Egypt invokes treaties like the 1929 and 1959 agreements, though Ethiopia disputes them. Cooperation with Nile Basin countries continues, focusing on shared interests without harm. Military action is threatened but seen as unlikely by experts. Ongoing talks aim for equitable water management.

I appreciate the letter from His Excellency President Donald Trump @realDonaldTrump and his valued efforts to consolidate the foundations of peace and stability at the regional and international levels, as well as the appreciation it conveyed for Egypt’s pivotal role in supporting security and stability in the region.
I also value President Trump’s attention to the central importance of the Nile River issue for Egypt, as it represents the lifeline of the Egyptian people. Egypt has affirmed its commitment to serious and constructive cooperation with the Nile Basin countries, based on the principles of international law, in a manner that achieves shared interests without causing harm to any party. These are the constants upon which the Egyptian position is founded.
In this context, I have addressed a letter to President Trump conveying my thanks and appreciation, reaffirming Egypt’s position and our related concerns regarding Egyptian water security, underscoring Egypt’s support for his efforts, and expressing my aspiration to continue working closely with him during the coming phase.
