Now I am suffering a bit of bowser envy.. Here's my rig for watering the saplings we planted over the winter, vs the @EastCambs rig.
I think I might have 10x as many to water too.

@markrwilliamson The water table in our part of Cambridgeshire is the highest it’s been in living memory. Dry ditches have been full for 2 years. Would love to understand the metrics used to calculate EA drought reporting. We have had three incredibly wet winters on the trot.

@DanPBrown @BritishSugar I was told by my 75 yo Father that he has never written a beet crop off through drought. A very resilient crop apparently. Ours looks the same if not worse

Comfortably the worst field of beet I’ve ever grown, random establishment, no real rain since drilling and none forecast, to add to @BritishSugar terrible prices.

I don't think most non-ag people realize that a huge percentage of full-time farmers/ranchers live almost entirely on borrowed money throughout the year.
They take out an operating line of credit that pays for living expenses.
Interest accrues.
Then they hope to have a crop to sell, valuable enough to repay the loan P&I and their other term loans, with a few bucks left over to reinvest in the operation.
I'm not sure of another occupation where this is common practice.

@StuartMaggs I met with him last week. He wasn’t willing to listen unfortunately. We the farmers are wrong and the treasury are correct. His words were ‘it’s here to stay’.

@markrwilliamson It won’t affect the big estates either which are already in trust. Just the working family farms. Gov giving £500m a year in foreign ag aid. British ag is at its lowest point with trust in the gov obliterated.

@PhilLatham 14 years ago when I joined the partnership, our then solicitor advised my parents against gifting me a third of the farm in case I made a “poor choice”.

Something to think on before everyone divides their assets and gifts the land down the generations to avoid the APR changes which suck, 20%, bloody hell, divorce though is 50%, careful what you wish for

@cattlefinishers To be fair I thought they were going to be an issue but we have been using them for a couple of years now. It takes human error out of it IMO. I fill them out online, print them, nothing for shovel driver to have to do

We don’t need to digitize grain passports, what's wrong with the current system that works? Pre populated forms in the loading shovel cab ready to hand to wagon driver. Think on, I'm not standing about the yard waiting for a signal!
