@MollerVictor @guycalledfrank UI is indeed deprecated at this point and we only provide official support for Gameface. Which actually hits all requirements listed above, although I would imagine that the devil is in the details :) We reworked the pricing and it's now very indie-friendly.

@guycalledfrank There is Coherent UI, if you are willing to fork out the money for it. And also not sure if they still support "UI" or only supports gameface now.

I'm looking for an embedded browser library. Previously used Awesomium, but now it's dead and it was 32 bit. Needs to be: - x64 - Preferably C API - Documented - Easy to inject input & get pixels - Doesn't f*cking crash all the time So far I wasn't able to find anything good...

@onietzschan How old is your info on Coherent's pricing? As of Jan 2020 we have some very indie-friendly price tiers in order to make the tech more accessible to the wide public, and not just to AAAs.

There is, in fact, a very performant and high quality solution that would be perfect (Coherent UI) however it's stupidly expensive

@Donzanoid @steverockan Makes sense, especially if you have minimal UI and are on a single platform. Beyond that it becomes a drag and is better to pool the cost with other devs by using a 3rd party tool. We've also taken a turn with our pricing strategy and now have very indie-friendly price tiers, FYI

@georgiev_stan @steverockan Thanks, it's on my radar. Last thing I want to do post-ship is maintain my own UI library, but right now this is the most cost-effective option.

Getting lost in a sea of lifetime management. I *had* to go back and try out retained mode for my UI API and it started out well. Really well. But now it's just getting in the way Will have to free up some time to switch the API over to immediate mode very soon.

@steverockan OK so React is pretty much IM at the core but the real meat is in the implementation as updating the whole DOM between each frame is catastrophically slow. I've been thinking about moving Remotery to IMGUI web but it won't be fast enough for what I want. React looks interesting!

@raymondafcripps You are welcome to come and try our UI SDKs - both Gameface and Prysm come pre-integrated with UE4. Gameface allows you to build your UI in html5, while Prysm lets people coming from Scaleform to stay with Adobe Animate for content creation. coherent-labs.com/get-in-touch/

Unreal is amazing, however I'm not big on the UMG framework. Something like Scaleform would have been awesome to use if it was still alive. What alternative UI middleware could I try in Unreal?

@DomHynes @KPKaiza @BubbyOwen @Clemancholy2 CL tech is not a Chromium wrapper. And the last gen is not even based on a browser (i.e. WebKit), it's an entirely bespoke html renderer built specifically for game development.

@AndresMksGames @playedsomegames We don't utilise AS and I don't think anyone really does nowadays. And while we do provide an optimised JS VM there is indeed a fine balance between using JS and data binding. And for Gods sake - don't do animations with JS! xD

@AndresMksGames @playedsomegames I think you are correct, from what I've heart it's the same outsource company that did the SC: Brood War remastered, and that one came to be OK. Tbh the more I look at it, the more it looks like an underfunded fan service effort that went terribly wrong.

@playedsomegames @AndresMksGames As a game UI middleware vendor we often get requests from clients to refer them to UI devs. If you do have web front end dev experience I can hook you up with a copy of the software so you can get used to it and apply gigs at studios that use it - there are quite a few.

@AndresMksGames As a former Flash dev, I thought Scaleform might be a way into the games industry 10 yrs ago. But now it looks like my extensive front end skills might be a path. Very few game dev studios in Minneapolis tho. Thanks for the insight.

@Xaekai @colincornaby We would've cut them some discount if that's the problem, lol. We are about 100x faster and 17x lighter than CEF, the numbers in that screenshot are depressing. The thing is, the phone never rang and now they are stuck with that... thing :)

@colincornaby The sad thing is there are actually (relatively) performant solutions for embedding web tech into traditional games. And there is no way you could tell me Blizzard couldn't afford Ultralight or Coherent Gameface. Using CEF in a AAA title is just embarrassing.

@AndresMksGames @playedsomegames We've been getting A LOT of traction from studios coming from Flash (since we have a straight replacement, only much faster and based on html). Really puzzled about Warcraft 3 tho. I am a fan of the series, would've given them a discount if they were tight on money :D

@thereal_scottv Hey Scott, thank you for the considering us as a top solution. That said, we introduced some changes to our pricing model to be much more indie-friendly. We should talk :)

Building a little investment game in UE4 and considering HTML/CSS for the UI. Any recommendations aside from Coherent? Coherent is 💯, but too costly for a hobby project. Not interested in UE4’s Chromium Embedded Framework either since it’s not multi-platform.
