@BGibbus Bragg wasn’t terrible. He did alright out west being isolated and really the army shouldn’t have been his. It belonged to ASJ but that didn’t last long. He won chickamauga and sent the Yankees back out of Georgia unlike Joe Johnston who was truly the worst confederate general.

General Braxton Bragg was famous for being Braxton Bragg. He was the most despised general officer of the Confederate Army. A native of NC and graduate of West Point, he served in the Mexican American War and the Second Seminole War. He was famously quarrelsome in the old army, and Grant was said to have told jokes about his quarreling with himself as he had already quarreled with every other man in the army. Bragg sometimes won, and often lost, and lost due to poor planning and miscommunication. He had able field officers and willing troops, though under-supplied, to work with. His campaigns were mixed, but his command skills were terrible, bringing his generals to near mutiny, and Forrest may have threatened his life. He was eventually replaced and worked as an aide to President Davis before being dispatched to command a corps of the Army of Tennessee in the final days before their surrender. He died in Galveston, TX and is buried in Mobile, AL.
