The @TransportGOP is marking up the Water Resources Development Act right now! As Chairman of the Water Resources and Environment Subcommittee, I’m proud to champion this legislation to strengthen our waterways infrastructure, and improve processes and execution by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. America’s ports, harbors, and the inland and coastal system are America’s economic backbone, and this bill delivers for Georgia and the country as a whole. Let’s get it done.

On this day in history in 1789, Revolutionaries in Paris stormed the Bastille, a royal fortress and prison seen as a symbol of tyranny, marking the start of the French Revolution. At dawn, crowds armed with makeshift weapons surrounded the Bastille. After hours of standoff, the fortress surrendered, its cannons and gunpowder seized, and seven prisoners freed.

On this day in history in 1960, John F. Kennedy is nominated as the presidential candidate at the Democratic National Convention. JFK would later become the 35th president of the United States, beating Richard Nixon. He's viewed as one of the most loved presidents in history, confronting tensions between Russia and the U.S. during the Cold War in Cuba and Vietnam. In November of 1963, JFK was shot and killed in Dallas, Texas by Lee Harvey Oswald.

Leigh Ann and I are praying for Senator Graham’s loved ones during this time of immeasurable grief and reflecting upon his many years of public service. I did not know him well, but Lindsey’s spirited defense of Justice Kavanaugh during his confirmation hearings demonstrated a commitment to our nation and the truth that should be admired. May he rest in peace.

On this day in history, in 1804 in New Jersey, Aaron Burr mortally wounds Alexander Hamilton in a duel. Aaron Burr, who was the third Vice President at the time, and Alexander Hamilton, the first and previous Secretary of the Treasury, had a rivalry for many years. The duel was the result of Hamilton referring to Burr as a “dangerous man” in a published newspaper article. Although the witnesses turned around before shots were fired since duels were illegal in New Jersey, it’s believed that Hamilton shot into the air while Burr fired at Hamilton’s hip. Hamilton died the next day. Burr was charged with murder in New York and New Jersey, but his allies had the charges dropped. He finished out his term as Vice President, which marked the end of his political career.

On this day in history in 1985, France’s foreign intelligence agency bombed the Greenpeace flagship Rainbow Warrior in New Zealand’s Auckland Harbor. The ship was preparing to lead a protest against French nuclear testing in the Pacific when two French agents planted explosives onboard, killing a photographer. France initially denied involvement, but after the agents were captured, the government admitted responsibility.

On this day in history in 1795, James Swan paid off the entire U.S. national debt of $2,024,899. A Boston patriot and member of the Sons of Liberty, Swan bought the U.S. debt to France and sold it as interest-bearing shares to private investors. This move shifted America’s debt from foreign governments to private hands, strengthening the young nation’s financial footing.

On this day in history in 1950, General Douglas MacArthur was appointed commander of United Nations forces in Korea, just weeks after North Korea’s invasion. Known for leading successful campaigns in the Pacific during World War II, MacArthur initially turned the tide of the Korean War with a bold landing at Inchon. However, his later push into North Korea and public disagreements with President Truman led to his dismissal less than a year later. In his farewell statement to Congress, he famously said, "Old soldiers never die; they just fade away."

We are lifting up the family of Pennsylvania State Trooper Michael Pahira Jr. in prayer during this heartbreaking time. Americans are dying because Democrats claim it’s too ‘mean’ to require truckers to be fluent and literate in English. If you can’t read a ‘Stop’ sign, you can’t safely drive a truck. Plain and simple. It’s time to pass Dalilah’s Law.

BREAKING: DHS confirms to @FoxNews that the semi-truck driver charged w/ killing PA State Trooper Michael Pahira Jr. in a crash in PA on Wednesday is a Haitian illegal alien who flew into the US via the Biden administration's CHNV mass parole program in 2024 & received his CDL from the state of Massachusetts. The Trump administration terminated his legal status in 2025, but he remained in the US illegally and had been living in MA. According to PA State Police, Trooper Pahira Jr. was inspecting a semi-truck on the side of the road in Schuykill County, PA Wednesday morning when a truck driven by 33-year-old Michael Bon veered off the road and crashed into the truck Pahira was inspecting, creating a domino effect that killed him and caught both trucks on fire. On this day in 1785, the Continental Congress established the dollar as the official currency of the United States. Before and during the American Revolution, Congress issued paper money known as “Continentals,” but rampant inflation quickly rendered it nearly worthless. In creating a national currency, Congress based the U.S. dollar on the widely circulated Spanish silver dollar, even adopting the familiar “$” symbol derived from the Spanish-American peso. Today, the U.S. dollar is the world’s primary reserve currency and one of the most widely used and trusted currencies in global commerce.
