@sam_golf I’ve always thought, from the very beginning, that the fines were disproportionate. Jon is an asset the Tour both wants and needs. I’d look to reach an agreement by reducing the outstanding fines to a level he’s comfortable with — though that’s easier said than done.

@gfcgolf Useful context, Gonzo, thanks. Question for you - if you were the DPWT, how would you handle the situation to best protect the tour and its interests?

May have missed something (entirely possible) but I was under the impression LIV were paying all fines up to the end of 2025. So, on that basis, Rahm’s sticking points are presumably the other terms the DPWT have laid out. Why would you refuse to pay fines someone else is paying?

@sam_golf Fines for skipping events like the Spanish Open or Wentworth — tournaments he has played and planned to play again — he’s fine with. It’s a matter of principle, not money.

@sam_golf Because for Jon it’s not about who pays — it’s about agreeing with the reason the fine exists in the first place. He’s always said he won’t accept fines for events he never intended to play (like India or Kenya), even when he was a PGA Tour member.

Golf has given me everything — incredible experiences, friendships, and memories that’ll stay with me forever. But lately, life’s been pulling me in a different direction. With two young daughters and a growing love for home life, I’ve felt ready for a new challenge. For now, I’m shifting my focus toward coaching and sharing what I’ve learned along the way. I didn’t want to post something like this straight away, because I wasn’t sure how I’d feel after stepping away from tournament golf. But a few months removed, the overwhelming feeling is pride. If this is the end, then I got to live my dream. I played on the European Tour for many years, won the South African Open with my wife on the bag, played with Tommy Fleetwood at the Zurich Classic, competed in a World Golf Championship, and shared the course with so many great players. The hours spent on the range with Andrew Nicholson, my long-time coach, and my brother, Andy, are memories I’ll always treasure. If I’ll miss anything, it’ll be those moments — the work, the grind, the quiet pursuit of getting better. But there’s no sadness or regret, just pride, gratitude, and excitement for what’s next. Eagle Creek Golf Club have kindly allowed me to explore some in-person coaching at their facility, which I’ve really enjoyed so far. I’ve been continuing to build on the Skillest platform, which has been great — but what I’m most passionate about right now is a new coaching venture I’m building and will be launching soon. I can’t wait to share more. A huge thank you to my wife, Keri, for everything she’s done over the years. Being a golfer’s wife isn’t easy, especially the last few years, but she’s always let me chase my dream and supported me completely. That moment we shared winning the SA Open made it all worthwhile. Thank you to all my family, friends, coaches, and sponsors for your belief and support. I’ve been lucky enough to live my dream — and now I’m excited to help others chase theirs. This isn’t goodbye — just the start of a new chapter. Stay tuned for what’s next 👀

Gonzalo Fernández Castaño on the Val de Rois project: "This is a major milestone for CDP in Spain as it will be our first 18-hole design in the country. It also represents a milestone for me personally in my development as a golf course architect. This project marks the beginning of a new chapter for us in Spain. I couldn’t be more thrilled to be leading it."

CDP has been appointed to design a new 18-hole championship course at Club de Golf Val de Rois in Galicia, Spain, near to the city of Santiago de Compostela. Led by the Cortizo Group, which acquired the club’s existing facilities earlier this year, this ambitious project will convert the current layout into a world class, multi-sport, family-oriented destination. The development will feature a championship golf course which will be complemented by facilities including racket sports, croquet lawns, an indoor swimming pool, fitness centres, hiking trails and children’s areas. Our design team will be led by Gonzalo Fernández Castaño who will work alongside Hendrik Hilgert and Frank Pont.
