If only it was true @PrueLeith I would happily be getting on with my day job, and have no objection to supporting people like your brother having assisted dying & am actually one of the few pall care drs that leans towards being pro-AD The sad truth is, this will affect so many more people who may instead want 1. Better financial means so they don’t have to decide between heating and paying the electric for their breathing machine 2. Access to high quality mental health or palliative care or social care support - all woefully underfunded with sig inequities across the country 3. Access to timely safe housing and financial security and culturally competent domestic abuse services so they can leave their abusive partner But they don’t have these and so they may see assisted dying as the only way out This is sadly the reality for many people It can be addressed ie we can start sorting out the inequalities above to make it saf-er for everyone But that we are told is not feasible #AssistedDyingBill

Great to hear from @PrueLeith who knows all too well how the current status quo restricting choice at the end of life fails so many.

@JamillaHussain1 @PrueLeith I don’t think you are ‘one of the few pall care drs that leans towards being pro-AD’. Think there are actually many more. The space (especially this one) is filled with such disdain from many anti-AD clinicians that raising your head for a nuanced discussion is costly 1/2

Psychological safety is not about withholding criticism. It’s about enabling people to speak up without fear. The goal is not to lower our standards. It’s to replace knee-jerk reactions with open-minded consideration. All ideas are welcome. Not all views are equally valid.
