@useoneonly @shrutammegopaya maybe parts of it but dating the entirety of the bhagavata to early medieval would make it contemporaneous with the alvars. implausible that a freshly created text would spawn a canon for the ages

@ghostofUGK @shrutammegopaya The Bhagvata is dated to the later Gupta era at the earliest but usually the early medieval. Sangam literature's latest bound is 300 CE, usually earlier. To get them to similar dates you'd need to follow the fringe scholars that think the latter is a grand archaized fabrication

Some pieces of bhAgavata lore (like kRSNa stealing the dresses of gopis) might have made its way into the great sanskritic texts (like bhAgavata purANa) from the south

after simhavarman 2, pallavas were bereft of worthy heir of pure lineage. delegates in search for one scouted far and found nandivarman, a distant pallava prince in Cambodia. with his ascension, pallavas would go back to being bhAgavatas after a brief mAheshwara interlude

went in wondering how they'd bring out the book's le hard shoince to life. they didn't. worse was being stuck in an IMAX crowd performatively bursting into laughter on cue at the reddit zingers that barely land. verdict: slop

project hail mary was unfortunately a middling adaptation of a good book. the script has the unfortunate affect of “language model populism” - where every single line has to be some sort of punched up comedic zinger yet still unremarkable. visuals were uninspired and trite and more or less identical to other space movies. everything good about the film comes from the wonderful world scaffolding of the book and the hard science fiction of it all that lets you suspend disbelief on the alien rocky the movie doesn’t really try to get into the xenolinguistic stuff even at the depth the book tries (someone called it “arrival for idiots” which unfortunately hit ) the thing that elevated the book is the commitment to a hard science fiction engineeringporn fiction at a level nobody else is able to write. the direction of the movie doesn’t really convey the same feeling successfully, and you’re left with flat characters, an alien that is more human than several humans i know, and a marvel populism gosling and the german woman are great as actors, but this movie will not be remembered in a year. it is disappointing to see people do so little with a quarter billion, insane acting talent, and incredible source IP

the tripuṇḍara {horizontal tri strand tilaka} as stated in this ancient śaiva āgama reflects śiva tattva, vidyā tattva, and ātma tattva.
later texts likely to mitigate sāmpradāyika warfare atm simplify its reasoning, saying that it reflects brahmā, viṣṇu, maheśa.
while the former itself is a sāmpradāyika belief and there’s multiple around the same in śaivism itself, it is interesting nonetheless to see how explanations evolve in the śāstras with deśa-kāla-pātra.
