Utopia is not the standard. Reality is. Every civilisation has sins if you judge it by today’s moral standards. You can build an entire career doing nothing but listing them. That is easy. The harder question and the only one that matters is this: compared to actual, existing alternatives, who has done better? I am not claiming the West is perfect. It is not. No society is. But if you are honest about measurable progress on rights, equality, and self-correction, it is still ahead of every other major system in the world today. So stop asking "is it perfect?" That is a childish question. Ask: "compared to what?"

@jeremycorbyn Ultimately I believe the left and the right want the same thing, a Britain that is a beacon of tolerance, opportunity and democracy. The right just realise that to preserve this we need to dramatically pause the high immigration rates and stop illegal immigration - for now.

The problems we face are not caused by migrants or refugees. They are caused by an economic system rigged in favour of corporations and billionaires. We are a mass movement for a kinder world. Together, we can take on the far-right — and win.

@PeterMcCormack Let it go if it wants to - today capital is actually created by the government by fiat. The big problem is if they issue more than a fully productive economy can absorb driving too much inflation. Another problem is it quickly trickles up to the 1%. We don’t need their money.

People who think the Green Party’s economic ideas are viable have no idea how quickly capital leaves the moment policies like that get close to power. Capital is like water! They also clearly do not understand what this means for borrowing, tax rates, inflation and public services. Everything they want is funded off the back of productive, successful people. You can cry about it all you like, but you don’t get to rewrite the rules of economics just because you don’t like them. I mean you can and you can brand them "Zackonomics", but it will be a catastrophic failure. Economics is based on human behaviour and incentives, envy and coercion has no place in any model.

Whatever is going on in the turmoil of politics, I know that for you and for millions of people, what matters is the cost of living. That's why we are taking urgent steps to tackle it head on. Freezing rail fares, rolling out free breakfast clubs and free school meals, boosting the National Living Wage and easing energy bills. Putting more money in people’s pockets. That’s my government’s focus.

Why is Labour pursuing anti migrant policies despite it not winning them any support? Because politics is in the pocket of the big businesses that like having a more easily exploited migrant workforce. Which is what anti-migrant politics is really all about 🤷‍♀️
Asylum Matters@AsylumMatters

"Creating a poorer, more vulnerable migrant class of workers... worsens wages & conditions for everyone & increases resentment towards immigrants." This. This. This. @ZoeJardiniere is spot-on on why hostile migration plans hurt us all. buff.ly/qpIHOq8

@jk_rowling @ForWomenScot Like many, I can't believe it had to go to the supreme court to getting a ruling on what should be obvious common sense. Finally all biological woman are protected legally and millions of woman across the UK haven't had to compromise their rights for a small vocal minority.

@Patrici46633494 As someone who spends a lot of time in the UK, I can testify that it's only parts of the major cities that are like this. You go out into other parts of the UK and it's largely unchanged, there are many beautiful towns and villages that have retained all their old world charm.

I was talking to a guy the other day who recently went on a “trip of a lifetime” to England with his wife. They’d been saving for years & were planning to stay for 1 month. They flew home after less than 2 weeks. He said it was beyond atrocious. That it’s worse in reality than what any media are reporting. Filthy streets, bollards absolutely everywhere, historic buildings in serious decay & hardly an English person in sight. Overrun by Muslims & 3rd world immigrants. Completely unsafe. He said it’s unrecognisable. That’s really fucking sad! How the hell did they allow this to happen?

@MatrixMysteries It was coming off the gold standard in 1971 that was the major cause of the devaluation of money. My Grandmother was a teacher in the 1950s and my other Grandmother was a secretary - woman worked before the 1970s!

What if I told you that a single income once provided a home, a car, and a comfortable life for an entire family? One shift in the economy made sure that would never happen again. Here’s how they used feminism to double the workforce, slash wages, and turn two incomes into a necessity🧵

@Nigel_Farage I was strongly considering switching to Reform for my vote but all this petty infighting is completely turning me away from the party. Put your egos aside and do what's best for the country - this is putting many people off voting for Reform.

I have fought against the rape gangs for over a decade. For Rupert Lowe to say that I tried to prevent him talking about it is monstrous. He told Lee Anderson he would 'slit the throat of the Reform party'. Lowe is out to cause damage & should be ignored by our supporters.

@BladeoftheS Shows a complete lack of understanding of how the wealthiest in society operate. Most of their wealth is in assets. You can’t tax somebody at 47% of the change in asset value per year as this is unrealised gains. If you forced people to sell you would kill wealth creation.

Mick Lynch wants a progressive wealth tax with the richest paying the same as everyone else on PAYE, 47%. That would bring in hundred of billions, it is time for the richest to pay what everyone else has been paying their whole lives.

Denying refugees citizenship simply on the grounds that they arrived here “illegally” on small boats *when there are no legal routes* for most of them to use takes cynicism to new heights. And such performative cruelty won’t see off Reform - it’s more likely to strengthen them

MSM has done numerous ‘woe me’ pieces on biological males in women’s sport. Every single one of them an extremely mediocre male athlete who’s ‘transitioned’ & not cared one jot whose rights they trampled on to win races meant for females. However not ONE - that’s not one single tv feature has been done on the girls pushed aside in their own category of sport, losing scholarships, medals, places on teams, dignity & privacy in a changing room, after years of training & sacrifices! This was exactly what happened for twenty years when anyone that spoke out against what the GDR were doing to their female athletes. My dad, still a swim coach at 90, tried to raise awareness. Every single person poolside & trackside knew they were cheating. The IOC knew. Nothing was done. Dad was never selected as a GB coach as punishment despite having the ONLY individual female medalist of the whole 1980 games (little old me!) for Team GB. Yet here we are again. I’m embarrassed & ashamed we’ve learnt nothing. Years later I often hear ‘how did this happen’ I say because people kept their heads down & did what was easy not what was right. Little girls deserve fair sport, Sunday afternoon golf ladies deserve fair sport. Female boxers absolutely deserve never to be put in a boxing ring with a biological male… which I think is criminal negligence

@robprogressive It's disgraceful what Labour have done to the private school system. The VAT exemption has been in place for 50 years and they are destroying wonderful, high quality schools that are often the only option for any parents who want proper SEN support for their kids in many areas.

My daughter’s school announced yesterday it’s shutting down. No warning. Just shutting down. 100s of distraught kids.   Why? Labour’s tax hikes on school fees & NI hikes on staff. A high-quality, nurturing school forced to close because of greedy, arrogant taxation. Disgusting. All it does is pile more pressure on overcrowded state schools.  How can ANYONE justify taxing education. Labour are destroying the very foundations of our children’s future.  What an absolute disgrace. @UKLabour
