Not enough people talk about Dale Murphy: • 2x MVP, 7x ASG, 5x GG, 4x SS • 398 HR, 46.5 WAR, 121 OPS+ • Back-to-back MVPs, 1982-83 • Back-to-back HR titles, 1984-85 • 6 straight AS selections, 1982-87 • 5 straight CF Gold Gloves, 1982-86 • 4 straight playing all 162, 1982-85 • 4 straight Silver Sluggers, 1982-85 • 4 straight MVP top-10s, 1982-85 • During a 6-year peak from 1982-87, batted .289/.383/.531 (.913 OPS, 145 OPS+) and averaged 110 R, 173 H, 36 HR, 105 RBI, 18 SB, 90 BB, and 318 TB per season. Not per 162 games, but literally per season; Murph never played fewer than 159 games in a year during that span. Despite being the most dominant player of the 1980s, Murph languished on the HOF ballot from 1999 to 2013, receiving between 8.5% and 23.2% of the vote during his 15 years of eligibility. An injustice!
