Today is the good old 24th of April again.
As some of you may recall, Sachin Tendulkar and I share the same birthday. It seems to happen every single year.
Between us, we’ve won the World Cup, scored 34,357 international runs and taken 201 international wickets. We’ve even managed to take more 5 wicket hauls in ODIs than Warnie.
So happy birthday to us @sachin_rt — and thank you for your contribution to our wonderful and very longstanding partnership 😉
And, as an aside, thank you also to so many of you who have kept me company here and in the real world over the last year. It’s been a lot of fun. Your friendship is very much valued. Hopefully, I’ve kept you entertained.
Thank you in particular to my extended family at @SWCCcrocus and @surreycricket and also to my newfound friends at @rajasthanroyals — cricket and our community make such a positive difference to my life. It’s a joy. So thank you all.

@NLAHamilton Yes but with worries. I don’t want us to get relegated but we deserve to. Maybe this is the catalyst that brings real change to the club. The worry is either we get stuck in the championship or worse we go through another trap door

@WG_RumblePants Great day at Chelmsford
Not many runs but a lot of wickets. Might not go the the four

What a great start to the County Championship! I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it. I hope you have too.
It really felt like an authentic and significant start to the domestic summer. Yes, there were draws, but that doesn’t tell the real story of this round. There were some great draws amongst them.
If rumours are true, Test places are up for grabs, and players up and down the land seem to be fighting hard to create an impression. I just hope someone at the ECB is watching!
MJJ Critchley was my player of the round for his 173 and 6fer for Essex against Hampshire.
What stands out is how much people still seem to care about our oldest and most storied format.
People braved the cold weather to be there this weekend. Thousands more tuned into the livestreams. Players played with passion and resolve. Teams fought to win and to save games.
Cricket is back. The County Championship is back and, to borrow a phrase, county cricket matters!

@robertmdaws Watched my first England game v Argentina at Wembley when Frank scored
England’s second goal. Great striker

FRANK WORTHINGTON 🏴
Eight appearances for the England national team, all in 1974, scoring two goals. He made his debut on May 15, 1974, in a 1-0 victory against Northern Ireland.
Worthington's time with the national team came under manager Joe Mercer, who described him as one of the best centre-forwards of all time. After Don Revie took over, Worthington was not selected for future squads.

@robertmdaws @CPFC This guy was my hero as a kid
I was fortunate to meet him at a cricket game in the late seventies with my dad and then I played football against him in a vet’s league years later . He is 12 years older than me and still made me look silly when he was in his late fifties

PETER TAYLOR @CPFC #CPFC
Joined Crystal Palace in 1973.
He made 122 league appearances for the club, scoring 33 goals.
He was named the club's Player of the Year in both 1974 and 1976.
During the 1975–76 season, Taylor was instrumental in Palace's FA Cup run, which saw them become the first third-tier team to reach the semi-finals.
In the same season, he earned four caps for the England 🏴national team.

@kershaw_alex Was there about 10 years ago and stood where Hitler stood. Very strange feeling
It’s been car park for many years for the conference centre.
There are some commemorative photos and content hidden in the terraces

@kevhillsy Just goes to prove that next step to elite level is huge. He was a decent player

Season 2025 got even better today for @HafnarfjordHamr as they overcame an all-star Chairman's XI by a margin of 2 wickets to claim the Samuel Gill Trophy. Man of the match was Muneeb, who bludgeoned a quickfire 27* off 11 balls from no. 10 in the order. Transformational.

@SpurzForEver Probably would prefer to swap our homes to away and visa versa
English

@EssexCricket Feels unfair but those last few games have proved we are in a good place for next season in the one day cup

Despite another outstanding victory from this group, we miss out on the quarter-finals due to results elsewhere.
Show some love for this team - winning emphatically in the last five matches, building serious momentum and confidence along the way 💜

@MusialaEra He is only considered overrated because he played for Tottenham.Any other club , he would get the recognition he deserves. Best striker in the world by far over the last 8 years
English

@robertmdaws Looks quite glamorous then compared to the run down place it finished as.
