Siena can survive in this environment. Just need a few things. Let’s look at this year’s team as an example. Mulvey and Coyle were home grown. Playing at Siena needs to be an option. Jimmer Fredette could’ve been a saint. Elijah Burns and Riley Mulvey could’ve arrived here with more remaining eligibility. BC is the perfect role model. Walking on Freshman year to knocking down threes in the tournament over Duke in his senior year. Need more like him. If Siena shows up in the tournament every year that should be no problem. Shoats and Chandler both came from lower divisions. For a lot of quality and proven players Siena is unquestionably a huge step up. This age of mobility is not necessarily terrible for Siena. Now. How do we get to the tournament every year? Hate to say it, but others have been saying it already, GMac and Doty might both be heading back to Western New York. A loan from Syracuse that helped us make some great memories. A lot of schools liked what they saw in Folefac. Great that we got him in the first place but can we keep him once everyone has seen him on national TV? Those guys nearly got us past Duke in the tournament this year. But would they have done so without their time at Siena? Would Jalen Pickett be in the NBA without his time at Siena? A player will mature faster on the court, playing for Siena, with a conference championship on the line than being on the bench at a power conference, where 18-14 gets you into the dance. Play for Siena and you can leap from obscurity to the national spotlight, leaping over more highly recruited talent tha is playing garbage time at a blue blood school. You need the money this year or a jackpot in the NBA? If you can hold for the jackpot then come to Siena, get on the court and make some noise in the tournament. Keep improving and the money will be there.
