@Peston @breeallegretti @wesstreeting is putting his ambition before the interests of the country; playing into the hands of Reform; and giving the right wing press their jollies. He is letting down all those that worked for 14 years to oust the Tories. Shameful.

I have had the same conversations with MPs as @breeallegretti. The health secretary Wes Streeting, soon to be ex health secretary, is poised to launch his leadership bid tomorrow
Aubrey Allegretti@breeallegretti

Exc with @patrickkmaguire: Wes Streeting has told allies that he is preparing to resign and trigger a leadership contest as soon as tomorrow. The health secretary confronted Sir Keir Starmer this morning during a meeting ahead of the King’s Speech that lasted just 16 minutes over the turmoil engulfing the Labour Party. Allies of Streeting who have spoken to him directly said that he has made clear that he is “going to go for it”. They said that he is likely to resign on Thursday and mount a formal challenge for the leadership One Streeting ally who has spoken to him said: “He is going to go for it. He’s going tomorrow.” Discussions have also been held to prepare for MPs to sign Streeting’s nomination papers, according to one of those with knowledge of the plans. Another who has spoken to him said that claims by Starmer’s allies that he has “bottled it” are wide of the mark and that he made clear in private that he will make a bid for the leadership. A third senior source organising for Streeting said: “If they [Starmer’s supporters] think this is over, they’re going to be disappointed. I’m expecting a move before the end of the week.” A spokesman for Streeting said: “Wes is the Health Secretary, he is proud of his record of falling waiting lists and a recovering NHS. He is not planning to say anything following his meeting with the Prime Minister that might distract from the King’s Speech.”

Genuinely, can the fuckwits that voted for the Green party explain why an Indian transvestite on a student visa should make laws for Scotland? Try to avoid claiming that it's 'bigoted' to not want an effete foreign charlatan to have actual power over Scots.

1/ In January 2008, PC Neil Sampson walked towards a man with a knife. He took seven stab wounds doing it. His dog Anya, already bleeding, kept hold of the attacker so her handler could live. That same man, Essa Suleiman stabbed two people yesterday in a terror attack in Golders Green. Here’s what happened next. 🧵

Aww, bless your little hearts, Metropolitan Police. How perfectly, gloriously convenient. You stand before the nation celebrating a judicial review victory that allows you to roll out Live Facial Recognition across London, all while insisting it complies with human rights law and comes with clear and effective safeguards. Meanwhile, under your Internet Copper Sir Mark Rowley, the same force that turned a blind eye to grooming gangs for years, enforced two-tier policing with ruthless enthusiasm, and treated British citizens tweets as greater threats than actual knife crime on our streets, now wants us to trust them with mass surveillance. You can scan every face in the capital, yet somehow still cannot bring yourselves to confront the grooming gangs, the stabbings, or the growing reality of selective justice. How very modern. How very Metropolitan. The British people are not impressed by your shiny new toys, gentlemen. We are impressed only by results and on that score you continue to fail spectacularly. Britain First. No Surrender.🦁🇬🇧

🚨 Whilst the Met are struggling to retain police officers, they have simultaneously launched a scheme whereby those on adjusted duties can voluntarily leave and subsequently be paid to go. Details below 👇 VOLUNTARY EXIT SCHEME & ILL HEALTH RETIREMENT All adjusted duties officers will be contacted w/c 27/04/26 inviting them to express interest in a Voluntary exit scheme or Ill health retirement. Offering a voluntary exit scheme gives officers an option to consider leaving the Met with both financial compensation and career transition. All officers on adjusted duties as of 31 March 2026 are eligible to apply for VE, including those on maternity, career break or long-term sick. Officers are NOT eligible if they: ✓ Have reached 30 years pensionable service ✓ Are already leaving the Met ✓ Have under 2 years continuous service ✓ Are seconded to the Met from another force ✓ Are under investigation for misconduct, gross misconduct or have reached the final stage of UPP ✓ Where a misconduct matter* has been found proven in the previous 12 months It is completely voluntary to apply and open to everyone who is eligible. The EOI will be open for 4 weeks. An application does not guarantee an exit. We will consider each EOI against the same critical skill and operational impact criteria. We want to support officers who are interested in leaving via the scheme but need to balance impact on operational delivery. Lump sums vary based on age, length of service and how close someone is to being able to draw their pension. At the simplest level – for an officer aged under 50 it’s three weeks’ pay for every year of service up to a maximum of 18 months’ pay. First £30,000 is tax free. 6-month repayment clause if you take up another role in policing.

The claim that nobody at the heart of government — ie close to Starmer — knew Mandelson had flunked his security vetting is unravelling at a rate of knots. Starmer’s head of comms was alerted by the media last September. Sources tell me multiple folks in the Cabinet Office (where the UK Security Vetting unit is based) had known for quite some time. Cat Little, Cabinet Office Permanent Secretary, even had a copy of the UK Sec Vet January 2025 document concluding Mandelson was unfit to be US ambassador. She informed the new cabinet secretary Antonia Romeo. Soon there were about a dozen lawyers and officials crawling all over it. Such matters don’t stay secret for long in the upper echelons of Whitehall. But it seems the PM was still in the dark … until last Tuesday. Mmmmmm

@DPJHodges This is grasping at straws, even by your standards. The reply literally just says the vetting was done in the normal way. If this was a bit gotcha then why didn't the independent publish this last year?
