🚨 Secret Boeing ‘Ghost Radio’ Let a Shot-Down U.S. Pilot Hide from Iranian Forces for 48 Hours—And Silently Call in His Own Rescue In a high-stakes combat search-and-rescue operation over southwestern Iran, Boeing’s Combat Survivor Evader Locator (CSEL), also designated the AN/PRQ-7, emerged as the unsung hero that helped save a U.S. F-15E Strike Eagle weapons systems officer after his aircraft was shot down. The airman evaded hostile forces on the ground for approximately 48 hours before a successful extraction, with the CSEL providing a lifeline that kept him connected to rescuers without betraying his position. The CSEL is a compact, rugged handheld radio (roughly 1.8 pounds) built into aircrew survival vests. It is engineered specifically for survival, evasion, resistance, and escape (SERE) scenarios. Instead of risky voice transmissions that enemies could easily detect and triangulate, the device sends ultra-short, encrypted data bursts containing precise military-grade GPS coordinates (with anti-spoofing), the user’s identity, and pre-set status updates such as “evading,” “injured,” or “ready for pickup.” These bursts employ rapid frequency hopping and low-probability-of-exploitation techniques, making them appear as mere background noise to sophisticated enemy electronic-warfare systems. Key technical advantages include over-the-horizon satellite communications, line-of-sight UHF/VHF modes, an emergency beacon, and integration with global search-and-rescue networks. The unit is waterproof to 10 meters, survives extreme temperatures and the violent forces of ejection, and offers up to three weeks of standby battery life. In the Iran incident, the navigator used the CSEL to transmit periodic silent updates while hiding, only activating homing signals during the final “hot” helicopter extraction phase—dramatically shortening response time and preventing compromise. Developed by Boeing with initial operational capability in the mid-2000s, the CSEL has replaced older radios across the U.S. Air Force, Navy, Army, and Marines. It has proven its worth in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other theaters. The recent event underscores its growing importance in modern peer or near-peer conflicts, where adversaries possess advanced signals-intelligence and jamming capabilities that make traditional radios far riskier. 🇺🇸

During our latest MLB Fan Council meeting we talked all things ABS Challenge System, including new rules this year. Some of the details - especially the random behind-the-scenes stuff - are things most fans probably haven’t heard. Here’s what we learned:

@chrispank … and that was a Ticketmaster ticket, not a resale. As of 9:20 pm, I still see some upper deck seats with the blue dot. 🔵

For the record, I think the "bad calls" went for / against both teams but the best one had to be when the Michigan player shot a 3-pointer two feet behind the line ... and drew the foul by jumping into a Husker defender two feet INSIDE the arc. 🤣
