@ratlpolicy It’s easier for their parents who both work, and since they are paying taxes, they are paying for their children’s meals. I could be exempted from the tax (as a retiree), but I don’t take the exemption. I’m happy to pay taxes to feed children, no matter their economic status.

@ratlpolicy My grandchildren go to a school where the ratio of low income students is so high they provide meals to all the children. It’s fabulous for my grandchildren and their parents, they get to eat and don’t have to worry if their parents remembered to put money on their lunch card.

I voted against this. I simply don't think every single public school kid needs free meals. My family is well-off enough to pay for our daughter's food. I don't want taxpayers covering it. That's an utter waste. I know the argument is that it reduces stigma for poor kids who do need free lunch. That's just total bullshit. I'm sorry, but kids are still going to know who is relatively richer than others even if everyone gets free lunch. It's a total misuse of taxpayer dollars & doesn't actually help poor people.
