@gpatrickhubbard Hi Patrick, yes! But they can’t obey what they haven’t been taught (Mat 28:20). Good teaching always has formation as the goal, but learning is the first step toward obeying. And the commands live within the context of 66 books. Bible literacy matters, and most don’t have it.

Today, we disciple by helping Christians to be deeply rooted in the truth of God’s word (teaching) as they are formed together like Jesus in community so that they live on mission with God.

This is why Paul did so much teaching in the gentile contexts because they didn’t have the same knowledge base as the Jews.

We can’t simply compare, copy and paste because in Jesus’ day most of the Jews were already formed deeply by the knowledge and adherence to the OT. There was a deep knowledge base. He was often pulling back the curtain to show that the OT all pointed to Him.

The death penalty is inconsistent with a pro-life worldview.

God does not become just when creatures appear. Creation provides a theater where God’s eternal justice is displayed outwardly; it does not supply the conditions that make God just.

God is eternally, immutably, and perfectly committed to what is right, because his very being is holy goodness, so everything he wills, judges, and does is always right and immutably good.

The goal of the church is not mission, but discipleship. One day sending will end, discipleship never will. Sending is the means, not the goal. Organize your ministry accordingly.

We can speak of “lostness” as Jesus did. But we mustn’t let it become a sentimental label that hides the complete diagnosis. Apart from Christ we are dead in sin, alienated from God, under sin, in darkness. Only then does the gospel sound like the rescue it truly is.

The quest for sound doctrine isn’t meant to inflate the ego but to humble our heart. The goal of knowing God isn’t simply mastery, but reverence. Beyond explanation to communion. When theology leads us to worship, our soul finds rest.
