Year 25 and counting of bringing at least one book with me to the beach and reading less than a couple pages. I don't know why I keep doing this.

Let me explain exactly why every new subdivision in America looks like the top photo, because the math is wild. A mature tree increases a home's value by 7 to 19 percent. On a $400,000 house, that's $28,000 to $76,000. A single shade tree produces the cooling equivalent of ten room-size air conditioners running 20 hours a day. One tree on the west side of a house cuts energy bills by 12 percent within 15 years. The bottom photo is worth more, costs less to live in, and sells faster. This has been documented by the University of Washington, Clemson, Michigan State, and the USDA. The data is not in dispute. Removing those trees saves the builder roughly $5,000 per lot. Concrete trucks need twice the dripline radius of every standing tree. Utility trenches need flat ground. A bulldozer flattens 200 lots in an afternoon. Preserving trees adds weeks and thousands per home. So the developer pockets $5,000 in savings and the buyer eats $50,000 in lost value for the next two decades. The person making the decision and the person paying for it have never been in the same room. The Woodlands, Texas is the proof of what happens when they are. George Mitchell bought 28,000 acres of Houston timberland in 1974 and preserved 28% as permanent green space. He forced McDonald's to build behind the tree canopy. That McDonald's became one of the highest-volume locations in Texas. The first office building, designed to reflect the surrounding forest so you couldn't see it from the street, leased completely. The Woodlands median home price today: $615,000. Katy, a comparable Houston suburb that clear-cut: $375,000. Named #1 community to live in America two years running. Fifty years of data. The trees are worth more than removing them saves. Developers clear-cut anyway because they sell the house once and leave. You live in it for 30 years.

Silver goes through cycles and I wouldn't expect this one to be any different. ETFs are fine for a trade I guess but that ship has sailed for this cycle imo though I'm no expert. Physical is a racket imo. You pay premiums when buy and sell. It's only useful in an end of the world as we know it situation. I personally would focus on bitcoin and growth stocks in a taxable account. Not financial advice especially since I don't know your circumstances or risk tolerance.

I would not buy silver unless you just want a small amount of physical as part of your emergency fund, but I'd wait for lower prices. At your age I would focus the taxable portion on bitcoin and/or growth stocks. No need to be paying taxes on dividend/interest income. Gold is fine but I'd wait for sub $4k.

Certainly understanding is important and that involves learning, but ultimately the commands, for example the Sermon on the Mount, are straight forward. To say people don't obey because they can't retain content from a lecture is just not accurate. Changing the medium of the message in and of itself is no more likely to lead people to die to self and actively take up a cross shaped life.

@gpatrickhubbard Hi Patrick, yes! But they can’t obey what they haven’t been taught (Mat 28:20). Good teaching always has formation as the goal, but learning is the first step toward obeying. And the commands live within the context of 66 books. Bible literacy matters, and most don’t have it.

This is why churches need to reclaim active, dedicated learning environments. Preaching is essential. Community is, too. But learning happens best when we are asked to do work and dialogue. Great Commission faithfulness depends on the disciple learning so he can teach others. /1
Jeff Vanderstelt@JeffVanderstelt

Of all the learning methods, lecture is the least effective (5% retention) of them all. If this is the case why do we still do so much of it in the church?

@HeathClarkGA Agreed. And the preaching Jesus and Paul did was most often in the public square, calling people to believe. It wasn’t speaking to the already convinced.

Maggie is growing nicely. Still has an inch or two of height and 6 or 7 pounds of filling out. She's a ball of energy and constantly drinks from my cup when I leave the room. She polished off my morning coffee today. 🫩 #welshies
