Peering Manager v1.9.0 has been released. github.com/peering-manage… A lot of work and love have been put into it, as usual. That's more than 9 months of work, so expect some new features and bug fixes (new ones will show soon enough I'm sure).

Hello les experts Juniper ! Sur un MX104 qui fonctionnait correctement il y a 1 semaine, j'ai le phénomène suivant: Aucune interface n'apparait (malgré la licence kivabien, et la présence de MIC). La "afeb" apparait en "present" mais ni online/offline, et sans détails.

@iljitsch @thking @jvantill One other thing, people sometimes forget, is that some networks dispatch peering configuration based on change windows which is usually reviewed by a human. Also allowing people to request peering via an API does not imply your network has an open peering policy.

@gmazoyer @thking @jvantill Well, you have an open peering policy or you don’t… but isn’t oversight after the session comes up more important? Trouble is the moment that happens is always unknown in advance by one side.

Fully automating the setup of peering sessions would be fantastic as humans spend a lot of effort doing it today. Proof of concept code is available already: buff.ly/3EPU0nh. This is a very promising initiative that the industry should support to make peering even easier!

@iljitsch @thking @jvantill No carefully designed network automation tool would allow BGP sessions with external peers to be populated automatically. At least one human approving the config of the sessions should be required.

@thking @jvantill Yikes! That seems super-dangerous. Network automation is great when it works, but it's also super dangerous, taking down your entire network if you make one little mistake. Remember that Facebook outage?

@thking @iljitsch @jvantill This is something I've been considering adding after seeing the talk at NANOG. Now that the GitHub repo is available the work can begin.

@iljitsch @jvantill Think about it: AutoPeer might be integrated into Peering-Manager (peering-manager.net) or your tool of choice. The new peering configuration is directly pushed to your router by clicking a few buttons. No clumsy copy and paste of configurations from emails anymore!
