tried to find a cheaper replacement for Fable 5. ended up beating it. the setup: Opus 4.8 first, GLM 5.2 FP8 as rescue when the verifier fails. tested on 100 frozen EvalPlus tasks (50 HumanEval+ / 50 MBPP+). results vs Fable 5: 1. solved 5 more tasks (94 vs 89) 2. 47.1% cheaper ($0.4251 vs $0.8033) 3. but 85.4% more tokens every single model , Opus, GLM, even Fable, scored lower than the combo on pass rate. whats interesting is that Opus failed 10 tasks. GLM rescued 4 of them. it's a dollar-efficiency win, not a token-efficiency win. Fable uses half the tokens but costs 2x. GLM burns tokens cheap.
