In memorium: Mohini Mani, 1937–2026 Our mother, Mohini Mani, passed away early this morning, in her sleep, after a period of declining health. She was 89. We are grateful for the care and support provided to her and our family by a number of medical professionals these last few years. We are comforted, even in this time of grief, that she lived a long life and could be counted among the lucky ones – to have known the undying love and care of dear ones and the genuine respect of just about everyone who came to know her kind nature, selfless spirit, and quiet grace. As someone who was part of the wave of Sindhis who migrated over to newly independent India at the time of Partition, as a child, leaving everything behind and starting over, she also derived immense satisfaction and pride from seeing her brood go on to do well in life. Indeed, the credit for all that we have gone on to accomplish in our respective lives is owed substantially to her warm embrace, unwavering devotion, and wise counsel, which formed the very heart and soul of our home. She was blessed to know a successful marriage of nearly six decades with our late father, and their cherished memories will continue to offer strength and comfort to us. We are moved by the kind, heartfelt messages, condolences, and remembrances that have been pouring in, and we ask for your understanding if we are unable to take calls or are slow to respond to messages. Her last rites will be a private, family affair. We trust that all who have known the ache of losing a parent or a beloved elder will respect our wish to grieve quietly, honoring her memory with the same equanimity, dignity, and gentle strength she showed us every single day of her life. கோஷ்டி கானங்களில் மலேசியா அண்ணன் தனித்து நின்று வித்தை காட்டுவார். அப்படியொரு பாட்டு. இடைவேளைக்குச் சற்று முன்பு தான் அறிமுகமாகி அதிரடி காட்டும் நாயகத்தனம் இருக்கும். நீலவேணி….. அம்மா நீலவேணி…. அந்தக் குழு கூக்குரலிடும் ஆரம்பத்தைக் கேட்டு நானும் என் சித்தி மகன் சுதாவும் ஒரு சிரிப்புச் சிரிப்போம். அதன் பிறகு தொடரும் பாடலில் கட்டுண்டு கிடப்போம். பாட்டுக் கேட்க சைக்கிள் டைனமோவைச் சுழற்றும் போது எழும் இலேசான கிர்க் கிர்க் கிர்க் ஒலியும், இந்தப் பாடலின் தாளக்கட்டும் ஒரே மாதிரிப் பிரமையூட்டும். மாக்கான் என்ற சொல்லாடல் எமக்குப் புதிது, ஈழத்தில் மொக்கன் என்று அதே அர்த்தத்தில் பயன்படுத்துவோம். இந்தச் சொல் என்ன என்று அந்தக் காலத்தில் தலையைப் பிச்சுக்கிட்டோம் 😁 இசைஞானி இளையராஜா இசையமைப்பில் ஆர்.சுந்தரராஜன் படங்கள் ஒவ்வொன்றுமே போட்டி போடும் பாட்டுப் பெட்டகங்கள். அந்தக் கூட்டு இதுவரை கொடுத்ததில் தொண்ணூறுகளின் அதி உச்சம் “சாமி போட்ட முடிச்சு” தான். “மாதுளங்கனியே நல்ல மலர்வனக் குயிலே” “பொன்னெடுத்து வாரேன் வாரேன்” ஒவ்வொன்றும் என்ன மாதிரி ரகம் அப்பப்பா 😍 ஆர்.சு படங்களில், “மேகம் கருக்கையிலே” , “சின்ன மணிக் குயிலே” போலவே கடலில் மிதக்கும் பாட்டு போலவே இந்தப் பாடலும், ஆனால் இங்கே அதன் பரிமாணம் வேறு. “பார்த்ததுதான் இல்லையே” வரிகளைப் பாடுவது இசைஞானியின் உதவியாளர் சுந்தரராஜன் என்று நினைக்கிறேன் ஆனால் பதிவாகக் குறிப்பில்லை, சாய்பாபா கூடப் பாடியிருக்கிறார். அந்தப் பெண் குரலுக்கு சித்ராம்மா எவ்வளவு பாந்தம் ஆகா 😍 தோணி மீது பாடும் குயிலு தோழியொடு போகும் மயிலு கங்கை அமரன் வரிகளில் அந்தத் தோணி என்ற சொல்லாடல் வருவதை ரசிப்பேன். படகு என்பதன் பயன்பாடு தமிழ்ப் பாடல்களில் இருந்த அளவுக்கு தோணி அதிகம் வந்ததில்லை. “காதல் கடலில் தோணி போலே காலம் முழுதும் நீந்துவோம்” என்று கவியரசு கண்ணதாசனும், “தண்ணீரில் தள்ளாடுதே தோணி, ஈரமான ரோஜாவே” என்று வைரமுத்துவும், முன்னர் தோணியைக் கையாண்டிருக்கிறார்கள். “கட்டுமரத் தோணி போல கட்டழகன் உங்க மேல சாஞ்சா சந்தோஷம் உண்டல்லோ…, அந்தியிலே வானம்” பாடலில் கங்கையாரும் கையாண்டிருக்கிறார்கள். இப்படி உதாரணங்களைக் காட்டலாம் என்றாலும் இங்கே அந்த ஈரடிகளுக்குப் பயன்பட்ட சொல் விளையாட்டு அபாரம். அது போலவே புருவத்தை “சேரன் வில்” ஆகக் கொடுக்கும் உவமை ❤️ கூந்தல் என்ன ஆலம்விழுதோ குங்குமம்தான் காலைப்பொழுதோ சேர்ந்த ரெண்டு சேரன் வில்லு புருவமாகி போனதோ… மலேசியா வாசுதேவனுக்குக் கொடுத்த வரிகளைக் கேட்டுப் பாருங்கள். அழகியலின் உச்சம். youtu.be/U5HNjAgK8Ms?si…
