We do not have to do this or entertain it. The dude was universally mocked for being unplayable in a play-in game. They never went anywhere with him. That's Cavs HS twitter. They still do the same, instead of analyzing the game and who plays well/who doesn't, they still have "their guys" they love and hate. Cavs traded youth and sustainability for a whiny attention seeker who underperforms in the playoffs and a 2nd round pick. They didn’t need him to beat the pistons or the raptors. And still almost didn’t win either series.
Harden is a career great player but he’s not a champion

I don't know if anyone ever truly felt Mitchell could be the best player on a title team, but for about 6 years he's been a top 10 player who has delivered massive playoff games, albeit on an inconsistent basis.
I do think there's only two paths after the year that make sense for Cavs:
Continue the all-in approach and trade for a player better than Donovan.
Or trade Donovan.
Because paying him 5 years $350 million (starting in 2027) as your best player is not a viable option

I think that Donovan Mitchell has lost a lot of trust with the general NBA public this postseason on what type of player he is. For years he was seen as a playoff riser who just needed the right compliment of stars around him. Now, I’m seeing people struggle to make the case he’s even a top-10 player.

Cavs stars are REALLY good but they’re just flawed enough that it limits them this far in the playoffs. And the supporting players are too one dimensional. The “let’s trade every player” after every loss is obnoxious, but no clear direction to go after this. Come home, 23
