Tue evening model runs show a window of opportunity to strengthen, possibly to strong tropical storm intensity as Bret is reaching the islands late Thu. After that, a sharp weakening trend should ensue with Bret falling apart as it crosses the Caribbean thanks to wind shear.

Tropical Storm Bret has perked up a bit Tuesday night with a big burst of convection for nearly 6 hours. It will likely be a little bit stronger in the 11PM NHC advisory as well. This is in keeping with the earlier forecasts and expected.

@goodlotz It gets more hostile as you go north, so it if bends north, it gets destroyed more quickly.

5AM Tue Bret advisory maintains track to the west through Lesser Antilles as tropical storm or low end hurricane then weakening in the Caribbean Sea. Folks in Windward & Leeward Islands should be thinking about preps for a later Thursday - Friday storm. Shear & drier air make Bret's future after this weekend highly uncertain, and the storm may weaken back to a tropical wave or dissipate.

Interesting trend in models Sun AM, the idea of a strong system turning north in the open Atlantic is losing favor to a weaker system continuing west into the Carib. This more west trend increases odds some folks (land) are going to have to deal with it. The timeline now for the islands is five days out (Friday), so everyone in Leeward Islands & PR/VI needs to think about what kind of preps they may need to start doing by Wednesday as exact track comes into focus. Euro vs GFS, similar trend.
