This work was where “structure-based vaccine design” concept came from, and the reason I came to US. It inspired me a lot during the journey toward S-2P.

Today I was invited to give a presentation to 5-year-old Kindergarten kids about coronavirus and vaccine. Below is to show how a virus gets into a cell,then how vaccines were made to protect us. I love those big eyes! They are smart kids. Hope they will all get the shot.

@nauutilus Actually, I was lucky to be here freely doing the research I like. I had been in great lab with excellent colleagues. I would not request more for myself. But I hope to build better understanding and hope international researchers be fairly treated.

@matloff Thanks. I just feel sad. This was just one example. It's never easy to change anything. But it’s always easy to say “spy”, “China virus”, “propaganda”. It’s always easy to investigate their relationship with home country, even for some citizens that have stayed for decades.

I was lucky to finally obtain an opportunity to achieve. But a lot of my Asian Colleagues left, after years’ advanced training. Is it their problem to “steal technology”, or it’s just the system that would not like them to stay?

I obtained several opportunities after SARS-CoV2 emerged, some with better salary. Companies started to recognize my previous CoV research. However, I chose the one that recognized me while I was nobody: a Chinese guy dealing with an unknown virus without even a green card.

“Science is not as welcoming of new ideas as it may seem.” Rejection doesn't necessary mean “bad”😊

Yesterday I obtained my first shot of Pfizer vaccine, which used “S-2P” that I developed. The building (Yale Lanman Center) is great. It has been converted into field hospital to help fight against 1918 Flu. It was concerted again last year for COVID-19.

@debe @PowerDNS_Bert Thanks! It’s strange. I feel much happier to see millions of people getting the vaccines I contributed everyday, then getting it into my own body. And I’m young, strong and healthy, with very low risk. I should get it together with all the other people.
