The Kippies Jazz Club. Kippies jazz club nestled in the heart of the Newtown Precinct was opened in the mid-1980s, and named after Jeremiah “Kippie” Moeketsi. It was jazz pianist Abdullah Ibrahim who suggested the name Kippies, and it was an international jazz club. This former Club will host the opening night of Newtown Jazz festival on the 23rd of January 2025. Starting with the presentation on life and times of the legend who achieved a lot against all odds. This will be followed by a free concert celebrating the music of the 1950's Joburg. Due to limited seating, free tickets will be very limited. #NewtownHeritageJazzFestival #100YearsofKippieMoeketsi
