This is key for Mexico's own energy supply and, as I wrote recently, can make of the country a re-export hub for US gas to global markets Unfortunately, the government's insistence in having Pemex/CFE take the lead will only reduce its chances of success..
Bloomberg@business

Mexico is planning to invest 140 billion pesos ($8.1 billion) in new gas pipelines over the next four years, the latest step in President Claudia Sheinbaum’s plan to boost the country’s power generation bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

Security is now the price of admission to the USMCA table. The White House just indicted a sitting Mexican governor. This is not a security story. It is a renegotiation of the entire U.S.-Mexico relationship. New @CSIS commentary with @Diana_Paz99: csis.org/analysis/sinal…

It is unfortunate that under the #4T #corruption in #Mexico is deepening. None of the problems they promised to resolve has gone away--they made them worse and created others. The #opposition must come together to rebalance the country in the face of failed political experiment.

The U.S. just indicted a sitting Mexican governor. This is the most consequential signal yet about what the USMCA review will actually be about. A shorth thread w/ @Diana_Paz99 🧵 (1/4)

🛢️Y frente a Pemex, pues la verdad no hay vaso medio lleno. 🚩Acaba de reportar una pérdida neta de 45 mil 991 millones de pesos en el primer trimestre. ⛽️Barril sin fondo.

This narcotrafficking indictment against a close ally of ex-president López Obrador puts Claudia Sheinbaum in an impossible position: admit her party has links with the criminals? or defend a dodgy governor? (Pic of Rocha Moya with AMLO in smiling times) bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

🚨🚨We're past the Rubicon. The U.S. just charged a sitting Mexican governor and nine officials with drug trafficking. Security and trade are fully linked. This raises the stakes of the USMCA review significantly. I've been writing about this moment for months.

The #UnitedStates has indicted #Sinaloa governor Rubén Rocha Moya and other active politicians in #Mexico on drug trafficking charges. This puts @Claudiashein and #MORENA, her party, in a tough spot. It is likely that Washington will now demand that they be delivered for trial.

Sheinbaum's top priority has been to consolidate a one-party state inside Mexico. She has willingly sacrificed other aspects of Mexican nationhood to gain scope and space for her anti-democratic domestic agenda. I wrote about her tendency in @TheAtlantic theatlantic.com/international/…

Mexico just appointed a new foreign minister and a new ambassador to the United States. The timing could not be more consequential. Roberto Velasco takes the helm with less than three months until the USMCA review decision date. For the past six years he has been a steady presence on the Mexican side of the North American agenda, holding senior posts under both President López Obrador and President Sheinbaum. He is one of the few Mexican officials who can read a Truth Social post and a USTR annex with equal fluency. Fewer still carry his experience managing Washington's demands by feeding them through institutional channels. That experience matters now more than ever. Velasco has handled the most technical files in the bilateral agenda, from Baja region water management to the consular network, while building rapport with U.S. state governments, the security apparatus, and the private sector in Washington. Roberto Lazzeri brings something equally valuable to this moment. As Bloomberg noted, he played a key role in negotiating two extensions when U.S. Treasury officials moved to sanction three Mexican financial firms over alleged cartel money laundering. He was also central to Mexico's $6 billion acquisition of Iberdrola's power plants. He knows how Washington's financial and trade machinery works from the. I told Jose Carreño (El Heraldo) and Luiza Franco (Latam Advisor): the formula is technical depth, not realignment. "The embassy in the era of Trump and the T-MEC review requires public officials who knows economics. Trump is not about diplomacy. He is about tariffs." With less than three months until July 1, Mexico is fielding its strongest possible team. The ball is now in Washington's court.

Latam outlook 2026 by @cepal_onu ➡ Mexico only big economy to speed up growth vs '25 ➡ Central America continues to boom (~4% growth) ➡ Cuba is collapsing (-6.5%) 🇨🇺 ➡ Guyana still king of the world 👑🇬🇾

I insist that #governance's weaker than ever in #Mexico. The government, every level, is overwhelmed by economic, political, and social issues, with no real plan. This is the product of trying to govern a country without partnerships beyond an executive that controls everything.

What's the point of extending USMCA if Mexico and Canada will still be subject to tariffs? Right now, Mexico and Canada pay more auto tariffs vs Japan. The result: US tariffs reduced US auto exports 3% YoY 🚗🤔 reuters.com/business/autos…
