@theScottrHall @streuselberg Tool definition overhead is very much not negligible at current context window sizes with the number of tools needed by a general purpose production grade agent

@theScottrHall @streuselberg Technically everything is a tradeoff and use case dependent but in the training I referenced Anthropic themselves pointed out that CLI + SKILL.md is a lot more context efficient because of the way it loads the content into context (also, specifically, when)

MCP is already legacy. It’s amazing tbh. Even in their own training materials, Anthropic recommends CLI + SKILL.md.

@streuselberg If you want deterministic behavior you need to use hooks full stop. Idk if either approach is overall better, but I can tell you that high numbers of MCP servers becomes untenable quickly due to the context rot of the tool definitions. CLI + skill is more context efficient

@graphtheory Do you think that's better than MCP in your opinion? It could largely be a result of the usage context but in an editor I feel like mcp usually performs better and more deterministically but I haven't really done a close comparison or anything

why does everyone use the term “late stage capitalism” all the time? how do they know which stage it is? we might still be early.

@SydSteyerhart That’s certainly true, and people don’t value the concept of “legacy” in the way they used to. For many strugglers and striving types such as myself that I’ve met out on the road, the legacy of passing on your genes means little to most

Western civilization has been progressively developing technology for the past 5,000 years. So at what point does technology interfere with childbirth, and why? He has no answer. We have drained all social prestige from having children. That's a far better answer.
