honestly a lot of american directors start looking funny when you watch more foreign films. But Tarantino is really egregious especially when you see how much he ripped from 60s-70s movies. Like they're not bad movies but they're worse than the source material often

I'd probably rank Kon on a very short list of the greatest writers-directors to ever live and maybe the greatest theatrical experience of my life was seeing Paprika while stoned out of my mind as a teenager, and while I hesitate to get into appropriation discourse it is genuinely very gross how many Western artists built careers of of taking ideas from a real genius who had limited cultural pull in the west.
