Happy birthday to Art Blakey, born on this day in 1919! A jazz drumming legend whose love for music, sparked in Pittsburgh’s steel-town clubs, fueled his thunderous, polyrhythmic style. Leading the Jazz Messengers for decades, he mentored giants like Wayne Shorter and Wynton Marsalis, shaping hard bop with albums like Moanin’ (1958) and leaving a swinging legacy.
