In the next months I'll provide you with a Hacker News replacement that I'll run myself and I'll guarantee personally: no benefit for whatsoever individual, a team of 10/20 persons since the start, from different time zones, clear rules, total transparency, and a "karma" system. I really want to fix HN and provide something that is not bound to a specific company.

@dvassallo If you eat 2.5lb of chicken breast then you've gained 2.5lb of muscle. Easy!

I gained 2.5lb over the holidays, but it’s all muscle according to my scales.

@bradgessler Thanks for the recommendation! In your experience, how does it compare to Jekyll for standalone sites?

@dvassallo "Doing X" and "teaching how to do X" are two different skills. Another case in point, there are accomplished mathematicians who are bad teachers.

Patrick Mouratoglou coached Serena Williams to 10 grand slams. But if he was so good, why didn't he win all those grand slams himself instead? Sometimes the "guru" cannot or doesn't want to do the things he or she is good at. Maybe they're old and they don't have the energy. Maybe they have 5 kids and don't have the time. Maybe it became boring and would rather help someone else do it. Maybe they're focused on a different project but teaching pays the bills. So many reasons that are not a paradox. Mouratoglou never won anything as a tennis player, yet coached others to 36 world titles. Where's the paradox?
Jon Yongfook@yongfook

The fundamental paradox of the "guru" is that if they were so good at building businesses, then they would be building businesses. Not selling you courses on how you can build businesses.

Would anyone be interested in hearing me talk at @BSDCan about the process behind FreeBSD 15.0? Release engineering and generally all the "behind the scenes" stuff which doesn't show up in a git repository.

I had to remove 7000+ spammy signups from a project of mine recently. Reminds me of a time when I went to upgrade my email list plan instead of closely looking who's actually signing up. Still don't understand who finds joy in scripting shit on the web.

After 12 years of working from home, I rented an office room: 25 square meters, 5 minutes to get there by bike, 2 Gbps fiber for 30 USD / month, and plenty of small businesses around me. It's an experiment, and I'm going to report back on its results in a few months.

Kamal Improvements. I don't use Kamal, but 8.1 makes it easy to load secrets from encrypted credential files and it supports registry-free deployments.

Very proud to announce we've raised €300 million from APG to support our growth to become the largest large-scale battery operator in Europe. APG is the asset management arm of the fifth largest pension fund in the world, with a very strong commitment to a greener planet.

@GregMolnar Thanks! Luckily, I was wearing a good helmet. Still, two/three days in bed due to the concussion followed by 5 days of knee pain. It feels I've got I lot of catch up to do. I can't wait to be on my bike again, though 😅

@OlumideOlubose3 Great you're learning bottom-up. It's important to understand what's going on under the hood, so that Rails doesn't feel like magic.
