When you select gear to take into the field, there are multiple things you need to be intimately familiar with, for every single piece: 1. Complete understanding of how to use it and every feature on it 2. Full knowledge of the noise it makes, both in use and when moving while not in use 3. Full knowledge of the light it emits and reflects (visible and non-visible) in the same situations 4. Full knowledge of the RF it emits in the same situations 5. If electric, full knowledge of average power life 6. Full knowledge of what you look like carrying it from varying distances, in varying terrain 7. Full knowledge of how far and fast you can realistically move carrying it 8. Full knowledge of any scents it may emit, even if they aren't detectable to your nose 9. Full knowledge of heat signatures, both in use and not, in varying weather conditions, along with average time to reach ambient This applies to weapons, LBE, mags, headgear, optics, footwear, outerwear, rucks, even things like watches and glasses.
