Just wanted to say a "Congrats and well done" to @JohnRoycomic for a GREAT article about Greyhawk in the DMG 2024!!
He also wrote a great article for Dragon+ and has content available on Greyhawk Online!

@Nobleshield @OriginalGrogna1 "GA" (1985) was more a supplement to the Folio(1980)/World of #Greyhawk boxed set(1983). It included new material filling in the niches of the setting, detailing locationss, NPCs, deities, etc that hadn't ever been in anything else. It didn't touch on stuff in other sources.
English

@OriginalGrogna1 I don't remember this one, how does it compare to the Folio/Box (I'm assuming not as good as the box)? It this the one that advances the timeline or is that later?

Highlights from yesterday’s road trip, a nice clean copy of Greyhawk Adventures.
How big of an impact did this book have on your gaming table?

It looks like the first images of my map of the City of #Greyhawk are starting to appear online 😊

Mike @schley's new map of the Flanaess is absolutely beautiful, combining techniques and styles, geographies and nations, both classic and new!
Mike Schley@schley
Look who’s been a busy cartographer lately! My new map of the Flanaess has been publicly teased by WotC so I thought I’d share the article before the new DMG is released. It’s back to Greyhawk in 2024! wargamer.com/dnd/the-new-dn…

@schley @anna_b_meyer This is positively *wonderful* of you to say so, @schley
Giants, indeed!

In case you’re new to the Flanaess, Darlene J. Pekul and @anna_b_meyer are the giants of Greyhawk artistry on whose shoulders I stand. 😊

@InitiativeInn @YoDanno @A_DungeonDelver How ever did we miss this?
Thank you for using the "Great Library of Greyhawk" wiki! The page has been updated in a few details since, but we're thrilled that the wiki is helping fans learn about one of the great D&D creators, and notable artists!
Greyhawk, 4ever! 😀😍

@YoDanno TIL that while Mr. Sutherland III is most widely known for the 1E DMG + Monster Manual covers, he also is credited with creating the Wemic, among several other notable 1E accomplishments:

@A_DungeonDelver According to S.K. Reynolds, he wasn't the model.
seankreynolds.wordpress.com/2015/01/07/tri…
The artist, Todd Lockwood, has said the model was Fred Fields. toddlockwood.com/dungeons-and-d…
Erik Mona has recounted that Lockwood told him, "that old disco haircut needed to go" because it was so 70s-dated.

@BenoistPoire Hey there, Benoist!!
Had an interesting question, and thought you might be able to answer!
How was the date found? We are trying to find when the first sales of OD&D were made!
Thanks so much!

Fifty years ago to the day, on January 26, 1974, the woodgrain boxed set of the original version of the Dungeons & Dragons "rules for fantastic medieval wargames campaigns playable with paper and pencils and miniatures figures" was released in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, United States of America. These rules would spawn an entire genre of new role-playing games products, and inspire millions to participate in shaping the entire world of entertainment we know today, from video games and programming to fantasy movies to fiction writing to multi-million franchises, action figures, the technology allowing the representation of fantasy stories through a variety of mediums, and much more.
It is hard to understate the amazing impact this little game, with these little brown booklets, has had upon the world we know today. I'm sure many of us reading this as gamers would say "This game changed the course of my life." We are millions to know this to be true. Today, it's been 50 years this game has given an escape, a mean of expression and inspiration for the multitude of people of have had the chance to play and have fun with it.
Beyond any specific brand or owner, Dungeons & Dragons in an active participation hobby that makes us invest our creativity, emotions and mind into the creation of the whole, i.e. the game played at the table. As such, D&D would not be what it is without us all, without the hours we poured imagining any and all things with it, testing them with our friends, and having good laughs in the process.
So congratulations to all, and happy birthday, Dungeons & Dragons. May you be played and enjoyed for many, many more years to come at game tables all around the world, and inspire many more to moral heroism and greatness. Cheers to you my friend. And thank you Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson. Thank you for your gift to us all. Cheers!

@DndInk89114 Greyhawk is a *wonderful* game setting ... and we wouldn't discourage people from reading about Greyhawk—but, they can also buy legal copies of it.

@NQAtweets Possibly biased opinion: It's delightful to see these results. 🤩😍

@Kartaugh @KConnerWriter @roguecaliber A great set!
There was also a campaign setting book in 3e.
The D&D Gazetteer called it "the core world for D&D game products … The D&D game setting is located on the sphere of Oerth, most specifically on the continent of Oerik, in its easternmost portion called the Flanaess."
English

@KConnerWriter @roguecaliber That is also true.
Castle Greyhawk is a legendary adventuring site where Gygax and his crew used to play games, and the tradition continued for decades after that.
English

@roguecaliber In fact if I remember correctly Greyhawk is just the name of a castle.
Either case I prefer low magic Dungeons & Dragons settings. That way magic actually has some sort of meaning.
