There’s a lot of research focused on developing new antimicrobial compounds. As we’ve seen though, bacteria can evolve to protect themselves. So instead, my research takes a different approach, in our lab we study how bacteria communicate.

One of my favorite things to do is baking. And there was a time I thought it was incompatible with science, but now I realize it makes me a stronger scientist. Half of my experiments involve playing around with “ingredients” and timing until I can get the perfect conditions.

@NaturalistDara I've found similar with books in the past. Writing a book takes so much effort and can be all-consuming. Doing PR is tiring too - and you've had a LOT of PR to deal with (& book 2. & lockdown. & life). Be kind to yourself. You've put something wonderful into the world.

#FridayNightFrills 18th Century court dress, contains almost 10lb weight of silver thread in an elaborate 'Tree of Life' Design. Signed 'Rec'd of Mdme Leconte by me Magd. Giles'. The name Leconte has been associated with Huguenot embroideresses working in London 1710 - 1746
