@piersmorgan I know it has its critics but we have the Nations League to play for with the finals next year if we get through. First match is against Spain and playing against better opposition will help us for when we play in the Euros in 2028

As for England’s players, they gave us some fantastic moments, especially the 10-man heroics in Mexico. Let’s not forget that amid all the bitter acrimony of losing a game we should have won. The next big tournament is the Euros on UK soil. I back Tuchel to bring it home then.

Got to keep Tuchel until the Euros at least. The benefit of being in Group A in the Nations League means we are facing higher quality opposition more regularly starting with Spain. This will give Tuchel the opportunity to develop a style of play, against better teams.

Still remember the feeling the day after England lost to Germany on penalties at Euro 96 and the pain of losing to West Germany on penalties in 1990. Not to mention losing on penalties to Argentina in 1998. Penalties again against Portugal in 2006 and against Italy in the Euros final of 2021. A second final loss in three years to Spain in 2024. And then last night and the feeling this morning It’s tough to take. Just keeps on happening.

I’m as gutted, and frankly bemused, as everyone else. But the Tuchel criticism is getting out of hand now. You can’t say “we had the World Champions where we wanted them” then claim we had the wrong squad. And it was his tactical changes against Croatia, Mexico, DR Congo and Norway that got us so deep into the tournament. Also, he will learn. The scars of this will go deep. He’s not going to sit back like that again.
