Before the war: 1) Iran didn't control the Strait Of Hormuz, now it does 2) Iran oil was sanctioned, now it's not 3) Iran was not building a nuke, now it will 4) US bases in the Gulf were assets, now liabilities 5) Inflation was declining, now increasing Definitely winning!

In many ways, reports Pete Hegseth’s broker took defence positions immediately before the strike in Iran is a bigger scandal than Watergate. Nixon’s crime was a cover-up; this shows signs of active war profiteering by the self-named Secretary of War. afr.com/markets/equity…

If your trying to make sense of what's happening, or likely to happen in America's war in Iran, I think it's safer to take the opposite of whatever Trump says.

Could the Moira Deeming pre-election debacle get any better for Labor. Mr Gourisetty seems to have been dumped without any due process. He may use Ms Deemings approach an take legal action. Alternatively Deeming may now be endorsed and the Libs lose the Indian vote again.

James Massola and Natassia Chrysanthos just produced a nearly two-thousand-word exposé titled: “Wells charged taxpayers $1000 for car to wait while she watched tennis – for seven hours.” From their own article: “Over those two days, she took five taxpayer-funded Comcars… The cost of those five trips was $688.32, bringing the total trip expenses to $1602.23.” “Wells… did not charge taxpayers the $469 travel allowance she was entitled to.” So let’s ask the obvious question: Did the newsroom run out of actual news, or was this just a slow-motion hit job? COMCARS — The Part They Pretend Is Scandalous Here are the facts, without anyone’s pearl-clutching: COMCARs regularly wait hours while ministers attend meetings, events, ceremonies, or briefings. It’s standard operating procedure across every government. It’s designed that way because COMCAR is secure, on-standby transport, not an Uber. Multi-hour waits and even overnight relocations are normal, not exceptional. This is routine parliamentary logistics dressed up as misconduct because… why? Because it happened at the tennis? Please. EXPENSES — Now Let’s Add Context They Omitted Wells’ expenses are not extraordinary. She even refused an overnight allowance she could have legally claimed. And then there’s the comparison that somehow didn’t make the SMH cut: Anika Wells (actual minister): ~$566,000 LESS in total expenses than Sussan Ley (shadow minister) in the same 12-month reporting period. Half a million dollars difference. Not mentioned once. Remember Bridget McKenzie’s famous trip? A $40,000 VIP RAAF jet from Adelaide to WA — not for NATO, not for a national crisis — but for a chat at a gun club. But sure, let’s write 2,000 words about a minister not claiming her hotel allowance and using COMCARs exactly the way they’re designed to be used. Final point, James: This article is beneath you. It’s beneath SMH. And it reads like the newsroom decided to cosplay as the Herald Sun for a day. You’re slipping. Still.

Israel is brazenly granting itself carte blanche to execute Palestinians while stripping away the most basic fair-trial safeguards. The new law dismantles fundamental safeguards to prevent the arbitrary deprivation of life and protect the right to a fair trial. It further empowers Israel’s system of apartheid, which is maintained by scores of discriminatory laws against Palestinians. amnestyusa.org/press-releases…

Losing her pre-election is no doubt the appropriate outcome for someone who sued the Party Leader. If she now joins ON it will no doubt serve to amplify the circus and the disaster that is the Victorian Liberal Party

@FinancialReview In Victoria, young tradesman benefit significantly from Victoria’s construction projects. Not only do these projects deliver good jobs, but these wages and conditions benchmark throughout Victoria If they vote for the Libs they will be voting against their own interests.

@mattjcan It's the other way around isn't it. Energy independence can only be achieved by Australia through harnessing the free renewable energy available to us.

On a statewide basis the ALP primary is down. But in 3/5 seats they have gained from the Liberals they have substantial primary swings to them (the other two are basically no swing). In both the by-election gains that they've retained they also have swings from 2022.

On a thread I couldn't reply to, saw a claim that Labor was only gaining seats in SA because the right primary vote was splintering then leaking preferences. This narrative is actually incorrect. #savotes
