@ArtemisConsort All of the smart people saying it will not work or they cannot see how it will work ignore that existing StarLink, especially V3 satellites, are already servers running in space that require cooling. A data center satellite is just as simple as StarLink beefed up.

It’s hilarious how proud of themselves people are for noticing the very first thing anyone would notice about space data centers. I too had the thought “what about cooling” the first time I saw the idea, then I saw huge companies betting on it and assumed I was missing something rather than that no one at SpaceX etc had the BRILLIANCE I had to notice this obvious phys 101 objection, because I’m not a moron. And yeah, turns out you can make radiators work.
David Bombal@davidbombal

Why space servers FAIL Execs want to put data centers in space, but there's a massive physics problem: vacuums have no convection cooling. Discover why cooling servers in space relies purely on infrared radiation! Big thanks to @ThreatLocker for sponsoring my trip to ZTW26 and also for sponsoring this video. @OnlyMalarkey @0hour1 Even if DJT takes it, some Democrat would give it back. But we could setup our own toll booth/insurance scam in the strait. $250K Lloyd's gets is $1,825,000,000/y. That would pay for one of DJT's Golden Battleships. And it would annoy the British, so its win/win.

@GrumpyTechBro @0hour1 I'll believe it when I see it. We were supposedly going to take Iraq's oil too, and the war would be self-funding. $ trillion later, and it turns out that was wrong, at best.

@OnlyMalarkey @DataPhenomenon @grok It depends on the food. Always worth rinsing off egg yolk for instance. Or ice cream residue. Or at least spray it in the sink so it stays wet before the DW.

@GrumpyTechBro @DataPhenomenon @grok There's your mistake. Just scrape off the big bits and put it in the DW. Rinsing is a waste of water and time. I can't believe these people who wash their dishes before putting them in the DW. Consumer Reports did a study on this in the 90s. Enjoy your new freedom.

Seed oil critics are like anti-hereditarians, flat-earthers, anti-vaxxers, or evolution deniers for nutrition. All of these groups are basically anti-Bayesian. They only update inappropriately, and they quibble around the edges of the evidence while ignoring the big picture.

@GrumpyTechBro @cremieuxrecueil Seed oils produce aldehydes when heated, and many come with them since the process to make them requires heating them to high temperatures. Read "The Big Fat Surprise," and it'll revolutionize your diet. I now buy more lard than vegetable oil.

@GrumpyTechBro @cremieuxrecueil Seed oils were invented shortly before WWI. To imagine that something so new is the key to human health is to be seriously deluded about what exactly we evolved to eat.

@wrykkeX @chirno_helmet Doesn’t matter if your feet are exactly 12 inches or not unless you’re changing feet between your store and the house. Pounds at 16 ounces. So all the powers of two are easy.

@GrumpyTechBro @chirno_helmet Very few people have feet that are actually 12 inches long. Pounds are not in units of 16, I don't even know what that means. What is a unit of 16? I'm done now.

@GrumpyTechBro @Bowtiedplayer @MolonNukei The fact that Trump now has the left openly supporting the people who throw gays off of buildings and arrest women for not being sufficiently covered up is a superpower I could never have imagined. I just hope my gay brethren on the coasts take note.

It’s difficult to explain Combat Search And Rescue (CSAR), but I use my account to explain aviation & military in simple terms, so I’m going to try. To begin, CSAR is not just one unit. There are multiple specialized units among the different branches as well as units that serve this role as a secondary function. They can work independently or alone. These units may be entirely ground troops, or may operate helicopters & the HC-130 “Combat King”, used for various roles including dropping Pararescue troops (called “PJs” in the Air Force), air-refueling the helicopters, longer range communications as well as Command & Control. While the helicopters are armed, they will be accompanied by attack aircraft whenever possible. These became known as “Sandy” during the Vietnam War. The usual aircraft used today in a Sandy role is the A-10, but in theory the HC-130 can call in anyone around. Or everyone, including Bombers. When one of these missions becomes necessary, it takes precedence. The attack jets fly low near the downed crew. They protect both the crew & the helicopter during a rescue, engaging any targets that appear & talking to the downed crew when it’s possible. A tanker may be directed to loiter nearby to support them for as long as this takes (they can’t refuel from the HC-130). When a crew goes down, their extensive training kicks in. Aircrew attend a long training course known as “Survival, Evasion, Resistance & Escape (SERE – better known as Survival School) as part of qualification. It teaches them how to evade an enemy & deal with being captured. I won’t go into detail, but it’s a long month+ of training & you’re very happy when it’s done. You’ll get refresher training periodically. In addition, the pilots are armed & equipped with special radios that can transmit their position. Several survival items are packed into the parachute on each mission & available once they reach the ground. Back at HQ, extreme measures can be taken to locate & support downed personnel. I won’t go into detail, but if they need to use a satellite to find you, they can. In any event, combat sorties are dangerous. The CSAR troops are a comfort to those who have to fly these missions. Pilots don’t have a guarantee, but they know that if they are shot down & behind enemy lines, CSAR will move heaven & earth to come for them. The motto of the Air Force PJs is perhaps a good way to sum this all up. It’s simple: “That Others May Live” Ok, I hope that helps. As always, I’m simplifying many things for an audience that doesn’t have experience with these subjects. It’s much more complex than I’ve laid it out here, but I hope it’s a useful basic primer. Hope to soon hear both crew are home safely.
