That’s absurd. Dispensational Zionism did not exist until 1821. During the Puritan era, the vast majority of JEWS were not even Zionists (like, almost none), let alone Puritans. The Puritans were Covenantalists and viewed themselves as Zion, and America as the New Jerusalem. Remember the American history books? John Winthrop’s “A Model of Christi Charity” famously declared that their colony would be “a city upon a hill,” echoing Christ’s words in Matthew 5, not a literal mountain in Judea. The Puritans interpreted their own history through Scripture, but never confused themselves with the biological seed of Abraham. They saw the Church (especially in the New World) as the continuation of Israel. Thomas Goodwin wrote that “the covenant made with Abraham was the covenant of grace, which takes in all believers, both of Jews and Gentiles.” John Owen insisted that “the promises made to Abraham are fulfilled in the Gospel, and not to any carnal seed.” Richard Sibbes declared that the Church is “the true Israel of God.” None of them expected an earthly restoration of Jewish political power. They interpreted prophetic promises as fulfilled in the spread of the gospel and the dominion of Christ’s kingdom, not in a reborn Levantine state. Salem Massachusetts was named after Jeru-Salem. Canaan, Connecticut; Bethel, Maine; Shiloh, New Hampshire; Zion Hill, Connecticut; Mount Zion, Pennsylvania; Hebron, Massachusetts; and Goshen, Connecticut. SOUND FAMILIAR? The Cambridge Platform ruling charter of 1648 referred to themselves as “the Israel of God.” The Puritans believed that in a display of God’s power that many Jews would be saved in the Last Days, showing his power by saving the most cursed, stubborn people on Earth. Not because they were in Covenant with God, but to bring them in Covenant through Christ. Please stop saying dumb stuff.
