@JayhawkGenZer @ku_grant 2024 we were really good until McCullar got hurt. We were ranked 4th in mid Feb. We had a major flaw of no depth, which became season breaking when our best player wasn’t 100% and eventually shut it down. 2025 was legit a down year.

Random, Saturday night portal note: I see a handful of fan-bases freaking out because their favorite team keeps "whiffing" - which at this point, probably means missing on 1-2 guys they were after. Truthfully, your staff has probably reached out to dozens of guys at this point, many you don't know about. You're going to miss on the majority of them. If you sulk on every one you miss, it's gonna be a long, miserable spring. That applies to, literally, every school. Thanks for coming to my TED talk 😏🏀

KU commits in the Portal Era. I consider 5 of 9 “hits” from high majors. 8 of 9 were rotational players (JCL had a big leadership role on title team but was squeezed for mins). Mid major track record is not good.

@Corey_J2 @gifhawk2 In the last 4 years Grady, Furphy, DP, and Tiller all started. Kohl started but wasn’t providing shooting we needed. Elmarko got a chance to start as a FR. The notion that Self doesn’t play FR is silly.

@gifhawk2 Idk man, not playing talented freshmen is Bill’s thing and kinda why we have been bad past 4 years. I just think you need to throw kids in early and not put them in purgatory after mistakes (Khol).

I know a lot of focus is on the front court but I do not like the thought of Kinney being our starting PG. Not trying to hate but I do not see it. Especially early in year.

@scottopks @Kansashoopschat Clement’s wasn’t a transfer to KU. That “kid that went to Maryland” also shot his career high 3pt % at KU. Griffin & Timberlake did get worse. The sample sizes in CBB are small, Griffin had a green light and was 9 makes away from going from his career low to career high.

@scottopks @Kansashoopschat But Council & White shot career high 3pt % this year. As did Remy. As did McCullar. Maybe some guys just can’t make the jump.

@Kansashoopschat We never have any shooters. Even if we bring in shooters, Bill ruins their confidence to where they can’t shoot.

@coachajkings I think most major program/top coaches are like this. It’s on the way up or building your program that you have to over promise.

Matt Painter shares why he stopped overselling recruits and started telling them the truth. "If you're gonna become one of our top 2 or 3 scorers, here's how I'm gonna use you. If you don't, then you're gonna have to blend in with those top 2 or 3 scorers from an offensive standpoint." Then he asked them a question: "Has anybody said this to you? Other coaches said this to you?" "And they'll be like, 'No, you're the only one.'" "I go, 'Well, they're gonna say it to you. They're just not gonna say it to you until November 1st before that first exhibition game.'" Other coaches wait until it's too late. Painter tells them upfront. Then he admitted something most coaches won't: "I used to be one of those guys. And I didn't realize what I was doing. I just thought, 'Hey man, I gotta sell Purdue, I gotta sell this opportunity.'" "But all we're doing is over-selling it. And if we get them, we're creating a problem." Overpromising creates disappointment. Honesty creates alignment.
