Polls finding that "most New Yorkers want more affordable housing, not market-rate housing" are very similar to polls finding that "most Americans prefer single family homes"—useless insofar as people aren't asked about tradeoffs.

One thing I've been changing my mind on:
More and more research is showing how direct cash transfers are more effective than government agencies, lucrative contracts with ineffectual nonprofits, and bureaucratic red-tape.
The Covid relief demonstrated this on a large scale.

What happens when you give homeless people in Vancouver $7,500? It reduces homelessness & pays for itself in lower social services costs. In a survey, people expected that recipients would spend $329/month on drugs, alcohol, etc. They actually spent $120/month. More in thread.

There’s no magic bullet for generating a wealth of inbound leads as an agency. I've come to realize It’s just: 1. The hard work of maintaining a good reputation 2. The discipline of continually staying in touch with folks 3. Finding ways to be a helpful resource to them
