The second session of #yif_2023 focused on how the international community can support peace in Yemen with @EUinYemen ambassador Gabriel Munuera-Viñals, @DutchMFA deputy director for North Africa and Middle East @guusjeka, @SwissEnvoyMENA Wolfgang Amadeus Brülhart, and UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator @DavidGressly.

On 8 and 9 May, our Human Rights Ambassador @BTahzibLie welcomed the Saudi President of @HRCSaudi_EN, @AltuwaijriHala, to the Netherlands for the second round of the bilateral human rights consultations. There was also room for meaningful exchanges with other stakeholders. 1/2

Topics included reforms in KSA, female empowerment, responsible business conduct, avenues for future cooperation, but also freedom of expression and the death penalty. We aim to continue our open and constructive dialogue with KSA, an important partner & key regional player. 2/2

During our meeting, we also spoke about Jordan's leadership in advancing peace and stability in the region, and its key role in hosting refugees. The Netherlands is committed to supporting these efforts, and aims to further solidify our relationship in the future. 2/2

The Netherlands and #Jordan have a long history of excellent relations. This month, our ties became even stronger. Thanks to Jordan's help, we were able to quickly and safely airlift Dutch citizens from Sudan. Today, I got to thank my dear colleague @AymanHsafadi in person. 1/2

Bij de evacuatieoperatie uit Soedan waren talloze @Defensie en @MinBZ collega's betrokken, in binnen- en buitenland. Zo ook het ambassadepersoneel in #Amman. Zij hebben zich onvermoeibaar ingezet om Nederlanders en anderen in veiligheid te brengen via Jordanië. 1/2

We had a constructive discussion on #FSOSafer related issues and plans, including the upcoming pledging event to be organized by 🇬🇧 🇳🇱 on May 4th. Appreciation to 🇳🇱 for its leading role in solving this top priority environmental threat, and to all donors for their contributions.

Had the honor of welcoming H.E. @LSchreinemacher, Dutch Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation & a group of fellow Ambassadors and diplomats, for a business lunch at the residence today.

Had a good conversation with FM @ABZayed of the United Arab Emirates. Grateful for the help of my dear colleague and his insights on the deeply concerning situation in #Sudan. Deescalation and a durable ceasefire are now of utmost importance. We agreed to keep in close contact.

The situation in #Sudan remains concerning. Important to coordinate with international colleagues on this. Thank you, Egypt FM Sameh Shoukry, for sharing your assessment of latest developments and for your efforts to advocate a ceasefire to ensure safety of people in Sudan.
