@gwilliamsster I'm not really worked up about it, I'm just enough of a conservatives that I dislike the idea of rules that don't have to be followed. I'd even be 100% happy with making the fares free if the finances of Metro could bear, which I don't think they can.

They threaten a $50-$100 fine depending on what locality you're in, which, if they're not going to enforce, maybe shouldn't be there. I do think fare evasion is analogous to moderate speeding or overstaying a parking spot, and there should be a ticket just the same.

A lot of casual, brazen fare jumping going on in DC. People hopping right over the gates directly in front of employees. Obviously they have no fear of getting in trouble for this, or even yelled at.

@ad_mastro sure, and 8mph over is different on my neighborhood street than it is on a local arterial

@gwilliamsster Depends how you define moderate - the traffic cameras give you pretty low tickets (I think $50 or $100 too) for going like 8 mph or more over. Often on roads where in localities w/o cameras the normal speed would be 15 or 20 over the stated limit.
