Boomers calling remote work lazy is hilarious coming from people who took 2 hour lunches and pretended to be busy for 30 years.

Why are we supposed to accept the loss of purchasing power or the inflation though? These phenomena have material causes we can reverse, firstly by rejecting the perverse incentives of high finance capitalism.

@RozDixie @revenant_MMXX I mean there’s a lot of nuance lost in these discussions. I think we can all agree it’s probably still cheaper to get good bread from a bakery and good quality meat, cheese, and veggies vs getting a restaurant meal from DoorDash?

@gxonio @IBlackmailLands @Saulcialist @AbHomineDeus If that's per capita, it's a strong argument. Otherwise, are people just engaging in severe overcrowding now? Many minorities do it, but I'm not sure if that's representative of a larger trend, or just a quirk of their cultures.

@gxonio @Saulcialist @AbHomineDeus It's not that 10% have gone from owning to not owning, it's that everyone is a tier worse than they should be. Their budget is getting swallowed to live in a crappy old house and still be house-poor.

You shouldn't be priced out of housing until middle age in the richest country of the most prosperous empire in human history. Demand better.

@ljmontello I am GENX and could not by my first home until age 42. What’s your point?

@lyc_aon Absolutely. The common demoninator I've seen for a lot of bitter young people, especially men, is whether they took a clean break from home or not.

What keeps people from having money in their savings is devaluing the dollar by 30% in only five years
Anthony Fava@FavaAnthony

@revenant_MMXX This is called the latte effect and it's more about how the every day splurging keeps people from having money in their savings.

@Chrysalis1999 @AbHomineDeus The average inheritance age in the US is in your 50s. Gen X and Boomers are the ones doing most of the inheriting now and over the past decade.

@gxonio @AbHomineDeus Gotta wonder if the numbers for early age cohorts of Millennials and Gen Z is skewed due to inheritances.

@gxonio @Chrysalis1999 @AbHomineDeus You’re reading these charts wrong. Millennials aren’t 42 years old, they’re between 30 and 45. It’s an age range.

@Saulcialist @AbHomineDeus Not enough for the generation-wide despondency and pity wallowing we're seeing play out online. The clean majority of Milennials are home owners, who also have a 10 year longer life expectancy than Boomers.

and that's the biggest reason for the collapse in the birth rate. There's just way more stuff to do now with your time and money. I love my kids but they undoubtedly limit your lifestyle in a massive way.
Elaine Craig@ElaineC54590844

This is exactly how life was, no eating out, no going for coffee, no restaurants and no holidays either. It’s just the way things were, there was no disposable cash and no ‘canned entertainment.’ The world of expectation is very different now.

@thltd_ Cutting the left tail off the bell curve would have no long term effect on the median IQ. Boosting the right tail wouldn't either, although the mean would increase a bit. Also paying people that are already well off to have more kids never works.

If you banned ≤85 IQ people from breeding it would, theoretically, take ~5 generations for national average IQ to increase by one standard deviation. This could be achieved in ~3 generations if you simultaneously paid ≥125 IQ people to have 3x more kids than the masses.
