A true highlight and gift to the assembly is the work completed by the DFW committee. This committee has produced a unifying DFW. Let us rally around it to complete this legacy project to the honor and glory of Christ. @AdrielTweets @nateshurden @joel_stclair

@Cad_lib No, sorry for the confusion there! As I say earlier, I believe church planting and healthy churches also are important avenues for evangelistic fruit. I'm more speaking here specifically of the pastoral ministry pipeline RUF helps develop.

@gziegler Do you see RUF as the only avenue for new members by conversion? PCA needs to have podcast, blog and GA overture energies redirected to local outreach and discipleship

My sense is that we as a denomination have become a bit foggy when it comes to vision and what we want to work together towards. As you think and pray about the PCA’s future, what are the things you hope for? I'd love to hear people's thoughts. I’ll start with my big 5:
Geoff Ziegler@gziegler

"A church where hope wanes becomes an anxious system. Preservation becomes the primary goal, and legislation becomes the primary means. In recent years, this anxiety has shown itself within the PCA...Hope creates a different posture."

@johnalex1 Yes, this is part of the challenge we're facing. Our denominational differences here are not trivial, but they are also not defining or central. What is the pathway for moving forward together with both integrity and a shared focus that is primarily on Christ and his mission?

@gziegler Also: Am I the only one that's noticed that every denominational conversation around here inevitably draws comments about women? It's the PCA version of Godwin's Law.

A strong leadership pipeline: to see those who grow up in our churches and love the church, those converted through RUF, and those attracted to the PCA from outside of it all contribute to a new, healthy, and vibrant stream of future pastors and church leaders.

4. A genuinely national church: to see us increasingly be able to grow beyond our educated, white, conservative Southern beginnings and take on the appearance of our country in all its ethnic and demographic diversity while remaining deeply unified in theological convictions.

AMR’s Theological Vision series continues with Part Three: Hope. In this essay, we examine fear, cynicism, renewal, theological inquiry, and confidence in Christ’s ongoing work in and through his church. a4mr.substack.com/p/hopetheologi…

@brothernelson This largely sounds right to me. But I wonder if there's a larger cultural dynamic also to consider: people's attentions are moving increasingly away from their local context to the national. Specific to the PCA, a growing importance is ascribed to what happens at GA.

Why are there so many overtures this year for #pcaga ? I think there are two main reasons:

@revpmr @gospelrefnet Yes, I'm looking forward to that as well. It seems to me that one reading of BCO would be to see "receive and adopt as containing the system of doctrine taught in Scripture" as equivalent to (and explicated by) "being in accord with the fundamentals of this system."

@gziegler @gospelrefnet I am waiting for Derek Radney's article on this, but I think the issue is that the A4MR makes it sound like we subscribe to the "fundamentals of this system of doctrine." That isn't what we subscribe to, though. That part is the duty of someone with a change of views.

I've seen it suggested that this contrast reveals 2 distinct views of confessionalism. I believe that's mistaken. AMR quotes straight from the BCO to affirm "good faith" subscription. I believe @gospelrefnet also takes a "good faith," rather than a "strict" subscription position.

Some have understandably asked about differences between AMR and GRN, another organization that is also seeking the health of our denomination. In light of that, I thought it might be helpful to compare their two statements:

@brothernelson Yes, I'd love to explore that more! I was trying to signal that with "*largely* referring." My guess is that it's not a monolith on either side and that GRN's Council might themselves have varying understandings of confessionalism. But still much overlap.

@gziegler There may be a different understanding of the mechanics and nature of good faith. Strain and Cassidy in dialogue began that discussion. But there more to be explored there for sure.

@revpmr The thinking was that sometimes when a statement only speaks of what a group is for, you still are wondering what it's opposed to. We wanted to identify both what we think we should pursue as well as what we should guard against.

@gziegler Thanks, Geoff, for the comparison. One thing I've struggled with is the inclusion of "We oppose..." in the A4MR statement. This reads more like a Confession than the GRN one. Why did y'all include that in the statement?

One further observation: neither of these statements go into great detail about specifics, simply because that's not something what statements such as these are for.

There was no direct AMR equivalent to GRN's focus on prayer and preaching (it was included in AMR's emphasis on the means of grace). And AMR's statement includes an emphasis on posture as well. But overall it there seems to be a significant amount of overlap here.
