moments like this separate the men from the boys in the RE fandom. when a new adaptation drops, you see who actually loves the franchise and who just loves their own nostalgia. the boys throw tantrums because they didn't get a shot for shot remake. the men sit back, watch the film, and ask themselves: "does it feel like raccoon city? does it capture the dread? the hopelessness? the body horror?" a beat-for-beat remake of the game isn't a movie. it's a walkthrough. and walking through a mansion solving clock puzzles for two hours is a great game. it's a terrible film. the people who understand that are the ones who actually want the franchise to survive.

what these fans refuse to accept is that a beat-for-beat video game adaptation almost never works as a mainstream film. the pacing is wrong. the logic is goofy af. watching someone solve a statue puzzle for fifteen minutes or survive on nothing but green herbs? cinematic poison. an original story set in raccoon city is actually the most respectful way to honor the franchise's spirit. it expands the world instead of photocopying it. but no. that's not enough. because for the loudest, most annoying segment of the fanbase, the only valid resident evil is the one already living in their heads. they don't want to be surprised. they don't want artistic interpretation. they want validation, the smug satisfaction of pointing at the screen and saying "i know that line." and when a studio decides to prioritize a good movie over a nostalgic checklist, they take it as a personal insult.
