As an Italian, I feel deep shame over my government’s decision.
Continuing to ignore that Israeli actions have crossed any moral standard, and that targeting civilians has nothing to do with self-defense, is both myopic and morally unacceptable.

Yes, the calls to kick out the countries is wrong. But then unanimity principle should be abolished. Veto should be abolished. That's what needs to be done.
Europe is a family - a civilizational family united by kinship, shared heritage and historical memory. And EU is the structure representing that family.
A strong and united family needs to discipline its waywayd members - members that go astray sometimes. Not kick them out, but discipline. EU needs to have such powers. Thus abolish the veto! So that no member goes astray.

I need to say this. To pro-European voices calling for countries to be kicked out when we dislike a government or a leader Please stop. This weakens the meaning of the European project: We are fellow Europeans regardless of who is in power at any given moment. Don't forget that.
