A few months before he passed away in 2003, a 74 year old children’s television host sat down in the same studio where he had filmed 895 episodes over 33 years and recorded one last message. It wasn’t for children. It was for the adults who had grown up watching him. Fred Rogers hosted Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood on American public television from 1968 to 2001. For over three decades he walked into the same set, changed into a cardigan and sneakers, looked directly into the camera, and spoke to children as if each one of them was the only person in the room. He never raised his voice, never talked down to his audience, and never rushed a single moment. In that final recording, he looked into the camera one last time and said “I’m just so proud of all of you who have grown up with us. And I know how tough it is some days to look with hope and confidence on the months and years ahead. But I would like to tell you what I often told you when you were much younger. I like you just the way you are.” He passed away from stomach cancer on February 27, 2003. He was 74.

Diskusi Buku “Reset Indonesia” di Desa Gunungsari, Madiun, Jawa Timur, batal terselenggara, Sabtu, (20/12/2025). Acara ini diselenggarakan oleh beberapa komunitas setempat, menghadirkan tim lengkap penulis buku: Dandhy Laksono, Farid Gaban, Yusuf Priambodo dan Benaya Harobu. Ketika acara siap dibuka, camat, lurah, sekdes, Babinsa, dan Polsek, datang meminta acara dihentikan dengan alasan tidak ada izin. Padahal panitia sudah memberikan surat pemberitahuan kepada Polsek Madiun. Tim penulis “Reset Indonesia” telah melakukan diskusi di sekitar 45 titik di berbagai kota. Inilah untuk pertama kali diskusi dibubarkan paksa. Setelah Madiun, tim berencana memenuhi undangan resmi Bupati Trenggalek pada 22 Desember. Sebelumnya, pada 4 Desember, kami juga menyelenggarakan diskusi di Pendopo Wakil Bupati Banyumas, Jawa Tengah, atas undangan Logawa, komunitas budaya setempat. Selama dua bulan terakhir sejak diluncurkan pada Oktober, buku “Reset Indonesia” telah didiskusikan di berbagai komunitas, kampus, sekolah, petani dan nelayan mulai dari Jabodetabek, Serang, Sumedang, Bandung, Pangandandaran, Purwokerto, Cirebon, Pekalongan, Brebes, Batang, Yogya, Solo, Temanggung, Wonosobo, Banjarnegara, dan Madiun. #ResetIndonesia

Teach us to number our days, Jesus, that we might remember that “this is the day that the Lord has made,” so that we might “rejoice and be glad in it” (Ps. 118:24). It was no mistake, no accident, that we awoke on this particular day. This is a day to rejoice because it is another day to follow Jesus, wherever he might lead us. •To make breakfast for our children? Yes. •To bring a cup of coffee to our sleepy spouse? Yes. •To go to work? Yes. •To speak a word of encouragement to a stressed coworker, a word of forgiveness to someone who hurt us, a word of wisdom to a friend who is confused? Yes and yes. This is the day that the Lord has made, for us to make something of it, even in the normal and underwhelming ways that populate most of the hours of our lives. We are disciples on this day, right now, to acts of conduits of divine love for those whom the Lord has placed in our lives, in our vocations, for us to serve. Lord Jesus, teach us to number our days, especially this day, as the twenty-four hours we live and serve by grace.
