Unpopular opinion: these videos are click bait. Comparing performance to 5 years ago is rational considering that’s what a typical upgrade cycle may look like. Claims about phone glass endurance are factual. Drop tests show they are. Glass hardness isn’t the only variable that affects endurance.

@LeakerApple I get that, and yeah there are definitely worse examples in tech marketing. But I think the framing point still stands—comparing further back generations can make upgrades feel bigger than they actually are for most users. Both things can be true at the same time.

IDK man I feel like this video wasn't well thought out. There's far more egregious misinformation and outright lying in the tech space than comparing the M5 to the M1. Can we talk about how some TV's market themselves as Mini-LED but have edge-lighting with vertical zones? Or how some Chinese companies site their display brightness based on 1% display area luminance? What about when Android brands advertise dedicated swap storage as additional RAM on their phones? How about low-end budget phones advertising the fact they have an "8-core CPU" when the number of cores is completely meaningless. Instead, he's complaining about how Apple uses Unified Memory but doesn't tell customers it's shared between the CPU and GPU. That's a feature lol, not a downside. Or how Apple's Ceramic Shield improvements are bogus, when in fact Ceramic Shield 2 was a noticeable improvement to scratch resistance while maintaining shatter resistance. There were definitely elements in here that I agree with, but they focused on the wrong things. It's a hit to their credibility imo.

Nobody is lying to you. These examples show it in large text literally in line the comparisons. They are all very clear about this, as they legally need to be. I understand it’s trendy to call tech companies bad, but this is not at all bad. It’s entirely clear.

The hate on the new Mrwhosetheboss video feels overblown. The whole point isn’t that companies are lying, it’s that they frame comparisons in ways that make upgrades look bigger than they are. That’s just how marketing works. Feel free to reply if you disagree

This video is unfortunately one of Mrwhosetheboss's and MKBHD's WORST videos yet. Misleading, dependent on AI imagery (talk about "lying to you"), and overall feels like an absolute waste of time. Wtf guys ._. Yall were supposed to be two of my fav YouTubers :(

@kostea12 Unified memory isn't a marketing term, ceramic shield 2 is literally more scratch and shatter resistant, the iPad Pro in 2024 didn't get a price hike because of storage, it got OLED this year, you can take 200 MP photos on a Samsung phone and more!
